The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed Friday that it was releasing a final tranche of 3.5 million documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, the well-connected late financier who was facing federal charges of sex trafficking before his 2019 death.
In a press conference held Friday morning, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the new batch of documents being released to the public was one of the last steps the DOJ was required to take under a Congressional bill signed by President Trump related to the release of the infamous Epstein files.
The documents were disclosed under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the law enacted after months of public and political pressure that requires the government to open its files on the late financier and his confidant and onetime girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Blanche revealed that lawyers for the federal government had given up countless hours over the past months to fulfill the administration's “promise of transparency” to the American people. He also said that a total of 6 million pages could potentially be released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, but that the DOJ would not be releasing any files that contain personal information about Epstein's victims.
Blanche described the review and release of the Epstein files as an “unprecedented effort" by the Trump administration, and he pushed back hard against criticism of its handling of demands for disclosure. “I take umbrage at the suggestion, which is totally false, that the attorney general or this department does not take child exploitation or sex trafficking seriously,” Blanche said. “We do.”

When asked if all files related to President Trump were going to be released, Blanche responded, "Yes, I can assure that we complied with the statute, we complied with the act. We did not protect President Trump. We did not protect or not protect anybody." He added, “There’s a hunger, or a thirst, for information that I don’t think will be satisfied by review of these documents. We did not protect President Trump."
Blanche acknowledged that many of the images and videos in Friday's release were redacted, including the removal of any woman appearing in the videos except for Ghislaine Maxwell. The DOJ also withheld any child sex abuse materials or images depicting death, physical abuse or injury, as well as anything that would interfere with an ongoing federal investigation.
There were a few eyebrow-raising revelations contained in the Friday batch, including revelations about Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Kathryn Ruemmler, who was White House counsel to President Barack Obama.
Gates, it seems, may have had a rather delicate issue that affected his marriage.
Wow. In the Epstein emails DOJ dropped, Jeffrey sent himself emails memorializing a fight he had with Bill Gates. In it he says that Bill Gates got STD’s from Russian hookers, and then asked Jeffrey for antibiotics that Bill could secretly give to Melinda without her noticing. 😳 pic.twitter.com/XNA0vNWTcI

And Ruemmler possibly benefited greatly from her association with Epstein. Despite previously claiming she had never been "compensated" by Epstein, a review the new files indicate Ruemmler was lavished "with luxury gifts, including a $9,400 Hermes handbag, an Hermes-branded Apple watch, and a spa treatment package at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C."

When Ruemmler received the bag, she wrote to an Epstein associate, "OH MY GOD!!!!! He is… pic.twitter.com/7TKeALi9bA
Democrat Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17) is vowing to keep the pressure on for additional file releases, saying, "Failing to release these files only shields the powerful individuals who were involved and hurts the public’s trust in our institutions.”
