With only weeks left until President-elect Donald Trump is sworn into office, the Mexican government is doing everything it can to keep Mexicans out of Mexico. They'd, of course, prefer that the estimated 4.8 million illegals (their number) from south of the border stay in the United States and have the American taxpayer pick up the tab.
Unfortunately for Mexico, Trump and his border czar, Tom Homan, have other plans, with mass deportations expected to begin on or soon after Trump takes the oath of office on January 20, 2025.
So, the hottest new job in Mexico is figuring out ways to keep Mexican illegals from returning to their homeland. The Mexican government has even gone as far as developing a digital panic button—called "Alert Button" and developed by the Mexican Digital Transformation Agency—that will enable illegals in the U.S. to alert family and Mexican officials when they think they're about to be detained by law enforcement.
The new app, which is expected to be available in January, will allow users to press a tab to send an alert notification to previously chosen relatives and the nearest Mexican consulate, of which there are 53 in the U.S.
"In case you find yourself in a situation where detention is imminent, you push the alert button and that sends a signal to the nearest consulate," Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs Juan Ramón de la Fuente said.
Now, this app isn't meant as a "Honey, I'm coming home! Get the house ready!" warning system to ease the illegals' transition back home; it's meant, in the words of de la Fuente himself, to ensure that Mexican illegals in the U.S. get their "due process."
De la Fuente outlined other protective measures ahead of Mexican nationals’ possible detention under the incoming Trump administration.
"The foreign affairs secretary was emphatic in pointing out that to deport someone from the United States you need a court order, a final sentence of deportation or removal, and that is where the consular team will be very aware that due process is complied with," the release said.
The U.S. has seen an unprecedented surge in the number of illegals crossing into the country through the southern border under the Biden-Harris administration, with nearly 7.7 million illegals now on ICE's non-detained docket. For the sake of comparison, that number was 3.2 million when Trump left office.
Trump Says Mexico Will Stop Flow of Illegal Aliens After Conversation With Mexican President
In November, President-elect Trump vowed to levy a 25 percent tariff on Mexico due to its lax immigration and drug-trafficking policies. RedState's Joe Cunningham had the details:
Trump detailed a 25 percent tariff on all imports from Canada and Mexico, citing the ongoing issues of illegal immigration and the trafficking of illicit drugs like fentanyl.
On Truth Social, he declared, “On January 20th, as one of my many first Executive Orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% Tariff on ALL products coming into the United States.”
The dynamic duo of Donald Trump and Tom Homan have made it very clear that deporting illegals is a top priority starting on Day One in office, and they intend to hold top offenders like Mexico accountable for the part they've played in inflicting this crisis on the United States.
Meanwhile, in Mexico, small-scale testing of the "Alert Button" has shown that the app, according to de la Fuentes, "appears to be working very well."
So, if you're an illegal who wants to extend your time in the beautiful U.S. of A. at taxpayer expense, there's an app for that!
