Actor Jeremy Renner has been seriously injured in a snowplow-related accident at his home in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. According to entertainment website TMZ, Renner was injured when trying to clear snow from his property using a Snowcat plow.

Neighbors say Renner was clearing a path Sunday morning from his house to the street following a massive New Year’s Eve snowstorm when he was somehow run over by the Snowcat, resulting in significant blood loss and serious injuries to at least one leg. A doctor who lived nearby was able to make a tourniquet to help stem the loss of blood while waiting for first responders. TMZ reports Renner had to be airlifted to a hospital in Nevada, where he’s being treated for what local officials called “traumatic injuries.”

Renner’s publicist, Samantha Mast, said of the incident: “As of now, we can confirm Jeremy is in critical but stable condition with injuries suffered after experiencing a weather-related accident while plowing snow earlier today,” adding the actor’s family was at his bedside and he was receiving “excellent care.”

Renner shot to fame in 2008’s The Hurt Locker, where he portrayed a member of an army explosive ordnance disposal team tasked with disarming an IED in Iraq. He is probably most well-known for being Hawkeye, a member of the Avengers in several Marvel Cinematic Universe films and television series.

TMZ reports that a source close to Renner says his injuries are “extensive” and involve one of his legs and other parts of his body. Meanwhile, authorities in Nevada have apparently confiscated the Snowcat to determine why its failsafe mechanisms did not engage.
