A guest at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago private club posted a photo to his Facebook page with the agent responsible for carrying what is known as the “nuclear football” – the nuclear codes.
The picture has since been taken down, but the fact that guests at Trump’s club can get that close is rather troublesome.
“This is Rick…He carries the ‘football’ The nuclear football (also known as the atomic football, the President’s emergency satchel, the Presidential Emergency Satchel, the button, the black box, or just the football) is a briefcase, the contents of which are to be used by the President of the United States to authorize a nuclear attack while away from fixed command centers, such as the White House Situation Room,” the caption reads.
The two images, one of which shows the man carrying the briefcase, is tagged at “Donald Trump Palm Beach Home.”
“It functions as a mobile hub in the strategic defense system of the United States. It is held by an aide-de-camp. and Rick is the Man,” the captions continues.
There were also photos of Trump in meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
It could be a lot of nothing.
Or it could be a bit of something.
As I said, the picture has been removed, but this really is the kind of thing that raises eyebrows, as we ponder the notion that the presidency is now on the same level as a tourist event.
