Biden Campaign Uses Same Rhetoric on JD Vance That Some Blame for Trump's Near-Assassination

On Monday, Biden's reelection campaign blasted Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump for selecting Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate.

Biden campaign chairwoman Jen O'Malley Dillion released a statement criticizing the choice as one that would "enable" Trump to pursue the agenda his voters favor.

Donald Trump picked J.D. Vance as his running mate because Vance will do what Mike Pence wouldn’t on January 6: bend over backwards to enable Trump and his extreme MAGA agenda, even if it means breaking the law and no matter the harm to the American people.

As Trump's running mate, Vance will make it his mission to enact Trump's Project 2025 agenda at the expense of American families. This is someone who supports banning abortion nationwide while criticizing exceptions for rape and incest survivors; railed against the Affordable Care Act, including its protections for millions with preexisting conditions; and has admitted he wouldn't have certified the free and fair election in 2020.

Billionaires and corporations are literally rooting for J. D. Vance: they know he and Trump will cut their taxes and send prices skyrocketing for everyone else.

Over the next three and a half months, we will spend every single day making the case between the two starkly contrasting visions Americans will choose between at the ballot box this November: the Biden-Harris ticket who's focused on uniting the country, creating opportunity for everyone, and lowering costs; or Trump-Vance — whose harmful agenda will take away American's rights, hurt the middle class and make life more expensive — all while benefitting the ultra-rich and greedy corporations.

I have my issues with Vance but I think his political positions are a lot more nuanced than this dimwitted caricature churned out by the Biden campaign.

It was only Saturday night that Joe Biden, in a failed attempt to deflect blame from himself, was stumbling and bumbling through a pre-recorded speech encouraging everyone to "lower the temperature." While it is quantitatively impossible to prove that the outlandish rhetoric of the Biden White House directly led to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump, I don't think it is hard to imagine that is the case.

It took much less for Sarah Palin to be accused of inciting the shooting of Gabby Giffords. You can't have eight solid years of mind-bogglingly stupid attacks on Trump and not expect someone to take the Democrats up on killing "literally Hitler" before he can burn the Reichstag. For a while this weekend, Biden was playing the role of King Henry II in disavowing any responsibility for the murder of St. Thomas à Becket because he only said, "Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?" There was no direct call for Becket's slaughter and none for Trump's assassination.

Still, you'd have to be dumb, even by Biden standards, to not understand that winding up an audience of crazies to "save democracy" was going to result in violence.

Now we're seeing that this dog whistle to violence is all they have because it is who they are. Dillon's statement about JD Vance is the same garbage thrown at Trump for nearly a decade. They are making Vance a new "threat to democracy." They are mobilizing the violent and unstable in their ranks to go after Vance just like they mobilized a young man to get himself killed while trying to kill Trump.
