Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME), one of the first Democratic congressman to call for Joe Biden to step down from his reelection campaign, is calling out his own party for its inflammatory rhetoric leading up to the attempted assassination of former President and soon-to-be GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
He was the rare Democrat who was honest about the reality we’ve been witnessing following Biden's implosion on the debate stage:
Another House Democrat Jumps Ship on Biden: 'Trump Is Going to Win. And I'm Okay With That.'
In a long Twitter/X thread Sunday, Golden exhorted his colleagues to tone down their incendiary statements and seeming calls to violence:
"We can start by dropping hyperbolic threats about the stakes of this election," he wrote. "It should not be misleadingly portrayed as a struggle between democracy or authoritarianism or a battle against fascists or socialists bent on destroying America. These are dangerous lies."

Joe Biden has continually framed the election as a battle between good and evil, and his cohorts, like Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), have seemingly endorsed violence against their ideological opponents.
They called for it: This Is What They Wanted

Golden continued:
Instead, our political culture projects a dark and almost hopeless future of diminishing freedom, increasing violence, and growing instability led by unserious people who care more about their own personal well-being than the nation’s. 3/10

But here is where he hit the nail on the head:
In the pursuit of short-term political gain, they are eager to exaggerate our differences and cast their political opponents as diabolical caricatures bent on destroying the country.
Here, he makes an excellent point:
As a result, it becomes easier to see those we disagree with not as fellow Americans who bring different offerings to the marketplace of ideas, but as enemies who would ruin us, to be defeated at all costs.
It’s refreshing to see a Democrat, even one who’s at risk of losing his seat in the upcoming election, tell the truth about what’s been going on. While Trump is hyperbolic, he does not call his detractors “dangers to democracy” or imply they’re traitors to our country. Yet Biden, Schumer, Pelosi, and so many others—along with their cheerleaders in the media—routinely throw around such rhetoric, acting as if it’s just normal discourse.
If you think I’m being over-dramatic, just look at Sunday’s New York Times style section headline—hours after Trump had barely escaped assassination:
The New York Times just published this about Trump today.

These people have been calling for blood, they‘ve been angling for blood—and now they‘ve finally got it. It’s only by the Grace of God that it’s blood from the former president’s ear and not his brain.
I applaud Jared Golden for calling out his cohorts’ lust for violence. I only wish most of his Democrat colleagues had such cojones.
