The internet, particularly Twitter, is not plagued by an over abundance of intelligence in the best of times. When you throw what would be colloquially known as mouth-breathers into a politically volatile mix, then you get a perfect storm of stupidity mixed with politics and more stupidity resulting in a virtual Sharknado of negative intelligence. This happened on Friday after the shooting in Santa Fe HIgh School in Santa Fe, Texas.

This high school has multiple entrances. This prevented any type of positive access controls and allowed the shooter to walk into the building. This is what Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick had to say:

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick blamed Friday’s massacre at a high school near Houston in part on “too many entrances and too many exits” on the campus, prompting some to mock his perspective as “door control.”

“From what we know, this student walked in … with a long coat and a shotgun under his coat,” said Patrick, a Republican who has an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association. “It’s 90 degrees. Had there been one single entrance possibly for every student, maybe he would have been stopped.”

But the low wattage crowd got ahold of this and it was off to the races:

This is weapons grade douchebaggery. Controlling access and egress is a very basic security precaution. I work in a building with 1200 employees. How many entrances do we have? Two. Just two. Those are positively controlled with card readers, turnstiles, metal detectors and armed guards. We probably have a dozen exits, but the doors don’t have exterior handles and alarms ring when they are opened. Every employee and visitor is identified, if appropriate, they are searched. But if an emergency situation happens there are more than ample ways out of the building.

That is what Lieutenant Governor Patrick was talking about. This is not rocket science. This is a basic tenet of modern school construction (my daughter’s middle school has exactly one entrance). It is only mysterious to politically obsessed ninompoops.
