This is pretty much what you’d expect out of CNN, though one would have no problem visualizing MSNBC or ESPN doing the same thing.
Here you have CNN anchor Suzanne Malveaux on site in Indiana (omigod, I can’t imagine a worse fate for someone on CNN. Stuck in godforsaken flyover country) to cover the Trump/Pence news conference on the Carrier plant there mostly staying open.
The action picks up at about 1:05 but the real highlight is at 1:19 where a voice off camera says: “That means his plane’s crashed…just kidding.”
What is illustrative here is what happens (Malveaux tries and fails to keep from laughing) and what doesn’t happen (anyone indicating that what was said was wildly inappropriate). What also hasn’t happened is the left howling for the Secret Service to investigate a death threat which is what happened throughout Obama’s regime. The other interesting fact here is that this video is an outtake and was obviously leaked by someone in CNN.
CNN has since issued a statement.
“An unfortunate and inappropriate remark was made by one of our producers off camera yesterday. We have apologized to the Trump transition team, and the producer has been disciplined.”
This is fine but what is CNN doing to eliminate the culture of hate that allows news professionals to think this behavior is not appalling because this indicates something more than a rogue employee in action.
