Obama's YOLO presidency descends into parody

At a speech in Austin, Texas, last week, Obama criticized the lawsuit House Speaker John Boehner has announced.

I mean, think about that.  You’re going to use taxpayer money to sue me for doing my job — (laughter) — while you don’t do your job.  (Applause.)

There’s a great movie called “The Departed” — a little violent for kids.  But there’s a scene in the movie where Mark Wahlberg — they’re on a stakeout and somehow the guy loses the guy that they’re tracking.   And Wahlberg is all upset and yelling at the guy.  And the guy looks up and he says, “Well, who are you?”  And Wahlberg says, “I’m the guy doing my job.  You must be the other guy.”  (Laughter and applause.)  Sometimes, I feel like saying to these guys, I’m the guy doing my job, you must be the other guy.  (Applause.)

So rather than wage another political stunt that wastes time, wastes taxpayers’ money, I’ve got a better idea:  Do something.  (Applause.)  If you’re mad at me for helping people on my own, let’s team up.  Let’s pass some bills.  Let’s help America together.  (Applause.)

The White House obviously thought this was a killer comment and created the above graphic and tweeted it. I suppose if you don’t have actual policies or ideas or even a clue sending out self-beclowning tweets is the least harmful thing you can do.

This is remarkable for a number of reasons. First and foremost is that Obama had time to attend a fundraiser in Austin and toss tofu (they don’t eat red meat in Austin Democrat circles) to his sycophants but he did not have time to visit the border and witness the logical and foreseeable outcome of his policies. Second, engaging in middle school taunts hardly establishes an environment where anyone wants to work with you, rather the opposite, they find reasons to oppose you even if you have a good idea.
Third, Obama obviously thinks that “working together” means “give me what I want.” In that regard, dealing with him is more akin to dealing with at ill-bred three year old than the president of the United States. Lastly, and critically, he is not being sued because he’s doing his job. He’s being sued because he’s not upholding his Oath of Office:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

Boehner’s lawsuit, and I find myself mostly in agreement with Erick, was not brought on by Obama doing his job, to the contrary it was brought on by Obama steadfastly refusing to do his job. While the president has a lot of power to make policy, what he cannot do is change the law. This utter refusal to follow not only the laws of the nations but the norms by which the political system has worked for a couple of centuries has caused no end of grief, misfortune, and loss of life.

His case for operating in opposition to a hostile House of Representatives would be stronger were it not for the fact that his interpretation of the law is unanimously repudiated by the Supreme Court with predictable regularity.

But other legal experts and the president’s political opponents have taken notice. Since January 2012, the Obama administration has suffered at least 13 unanimous defeats in cases it argued (not counting cases in which it filed an amicus brief), according to the libertarian-leaning Cato Institute.

Ilya Shapiro, a senior fellow in constitutional studies at the Cato Institute, told Business Insider that while 5-4 decisions can be blamed on the conservative-liberal split of the court, unanimous decisions are “indicative of an administration that pushes and breaks through the envelope in its assertion of federal power.”

Added a GOP Senate aide in an email to Business Insider: “Recent court decisions say as much about Democrat overreach as they do about anything else, and no data point underscores that more clearly than the dozen unanimous defeats they’ve handed to Obama.”

If Obama were doing his job, Iraq would not be on the cusp of being divided into a jihadi caliphate and an Iranian satrapy. If Obama were doing his job Russia would not be actively at work attempting to destabilize Poland and the Baltic States ans carve off additional chunks of Ukraine. If Obama were doing his job China would not be bullying US allies in the South China Sea. If Obama were doing his job veterans would not be dying while hidden on phantom waiting lists for health care. If Obama were doing his job Brian Terry would still be alive. If Obama were doing his job Ambassador Chris Stevens and his colleagues would still be alive. If Obama were doing his job, he would not be attending a fundraiser in Austin, TX while Central Americans are flooding across our southern border.

We, as a nation, are cursed with this weak, petty, vindictive child as our president. The next president should take a lesson from Egyptian Pharaohs and erase all record that Obama was ever president and all evidence that he ever existed.
