New: Dems Pitch Fit, Walk Out of Judiciary Committee Meeting Over Emil Bove Judicial Nomination

Senate Television via AP

It's a day ending in "y," and congressional Democrats are pitching another fit — this time over the Judiciary Committee's vote on Emil Bove, President Donald Trump's nominee to serve as a judge on the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals.

Bove, of course, is "controversial" and unacceptable to the Democrats, as he served as a member of Trump's legal defense team, and now as associate deputy attorney general at the Department of Justice. (Of course, few, if any, of Trump's nominees have been deemed acceptable to the Democrats, so why would Bove serve as an exception?)

Just ahead of the walkout, Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) was railing against committee chair Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), who apparently dismissed a point of order Booker had attempted to raise. The entire production runs for almost seven minutes, with Booker giving his most earnest impersonation of a reasonable guy simply trying to get a fair shake from the committee chair.

Grassley, for his part, largely ignores Booker's protestations and appeals to his decency, until finally, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) stands up and signals to his Democrat cohorts that they're vamoosing.

Following the Democrat exodus and before the meeting was adjourned, Grassley made a point to note that Thursday's committee actions are no different than what the Democrats have done previously when Republicans were in the minority.

Before you disband, I'd like to have everybody that's here know that what happened here today is no different than when Democrats cut off debate on Judge Kashubai and Judge Lee against Republican protest to continue debate in November of 2023. In that markup, Senator Blackburn and others were not offered an opportunity to speak on those nominees, and Chairman Durbin ordered the vote. Just like the obstruction we saw here, I ordered the vote this time. So, if you'll spread that word that this is not unprecedented  — either the actions of the minority walking away or what we did here as a majority — it's happened before, and we have to move things along, and I thank everybody for participating. Meeting adjourned.

Booker's attempts to filibuster and the Democrats' fit of pique notwithstanding, Bove was then voted out of committee unanimously, as noted by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO), who'd penned an OpEd in favor of Bove's nomination.

Bove's nomination will now be teed up for a full Senate vote...where we can safely assume that zero Democrats will vote in favor of it. (Nor would they have, even had Booker's point of order been sustained. It's how they do.)

Never one to shy away from some well-placed humor, Schmitt had some parting advice for his Democrat colleagues:

Editor’s Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
