Whispers of the shake-up began swirling Thursday morning with a report from CBS News:

Per the report:

We've got some breaking news out of Washington, D.C.: Mike Waltz, the president's national security advisor, who was at the center of that Signal chat controversy, will be leaving his post, along with one of his deputies, Alex Wong.

Waltz, as noted, was at the center of "Signalgate" — the March controversy arising out of the Signal group chat among Trump's national security team regarding an impending attack on the Houthis in Yemen, exposed after Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg somehow was included in the group chat.

Waltz's former U.S. House seat was filled a month ago by Randy Fine after Florida held a special election to fill his vacated seat, as well as the seat vacated by former Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Waltz spoke at Wednesday's Cabinet meeting, and things seemed to be all smiles, so it will be interesting to see what President Trump has to say about the matter.
