TOP O' THE MORNIN'
CHAOS: MTG, AOC, and Jasmine Crockett Go at It in Wild Exchange at Garland Hearing About Contempt
All the Democrats can really do is throw fits here to try to deflect from the problems of Garland and Biden.
As Cohen Wobbles, Does the Case Against Trump Fall Down? (Trump Trial - Day 18)
[N]ot only is Cohen a known and proven liar with an unmistakable axe to grind, he was caught playing fast and loose with the facts in this very matter. He's the person least deserving of being cut any slack. Will that matter to the jury?
'Drag Them': Missouri AG Minces No Words, Vows Action After Kansas City Tweet About Harrison Butker
I'm not a legal expert, so I'll leave that to those with the appropriate creds, but it's good to see Bailey taking a stand on this issue and sending a strong signal to any other city or state entity that such actions will not be tolerated.
WHAT'S ON TAP?
Today on Capitol Hill...
The only meeting set for Friday is a House Foreign Affairs hearing on "Eliminating U.S. Aid to Terrorists – New Policies for the U.S. Gov’t & Its Partners."
Which may be a blessing after Thursday's antics. Perhaps the weekend will afford some "cooling off" time for the agitated set.
Although with Judiciary and Oversight having advanced the contempt resolution against Attorney General Merrick Garland, we may some more activity in relation to that.
Also, look for more scoldy wagging fingers from congressional Democrats over GOP House members traveling to New York to show support for former President Donald Trump at his trial in Manhattan. I hear tell some of them are just undone over it.
White House What's Up
President Joe Biden is set to deliver remarks Friday at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. In the afternoon, Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are scheduled to meet with the "Divine Nine" (historically Black sororities and fraternities).
Full Court Press...
No court for Donald Trump today. He'll be attending son Barron's high school graduation.
Former Trump attorney John Eastman is due in court in Phoenix, Arizona, for arraignment over the "fake electors" case.
And, for an interesting little piece of history, on this day, 70 years ago, the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its decision in Brown v. Board of Education.
MORNING MUSING
"...in this world, nothing is certain except death and taxes." — Benjamin Franklin
I was reminded of this earlier when discussing the Trump Manhattan trial in the comments of this piece. All of us who are avid consumers of news and political intrigue like to fancy ourselves perceptive enough to foresee what the future holds. And, to some extent, we may be able to predict certain outcomes with moderate success. One thing I learned in almost three decades of trial practice was this: You never know what a jury is going to do. Never. So anyone who's claiming with certainty that the outcome of this trial (or any of them) will be "X" or "Y" is full of horse hockey.
LIGHTER FARE
The beau suggested this as a "retirement job" for me. I could totally dig it.
