BREAKING: Several Officers Reported 'Down' in Affluent Denver Suburb; UPDATE: Suspect Believed to Be Dead

In what’s being described as an “active” situation, multiple officers are reported as “down” in a suburban Denver community:


In an earlier tweet, the sheriff’s office stated there was “an officer down call in the area of County Line Rd between Colorado Blvd and University Blvd.”

The sheriff’s office issued a “Code Red” at around 7:15 a.m. local time, asking residents in the area to avoid windows and shelter in place.

UPDATE, 10:51 am ET: The Denver Post is reporting that the suspect involved in the officer shooting is at large and that a bomb squad and SWAT team are on the scene:

“We have multiple officers down,” said Deputy Jason Blanchard of the incident in Highlands Ranch. “We are not giving numbers or status at this point, we are still working on getting the suspect in custody.”

Denver 7 reported hearing shots fired as a reporter arrived at the scene.

Deputies were responding to a disturbance call when shots were fired from the home near Colorado Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m., Lekander said.

“We have SWAT out there setting up and preparing to go in right now,” Lekander said at about 7:15 a.m.

UPDATE, 11:02 am ET: The Daily Caller is reporting that Denver Sheriff’s dept. told a local news station that the situation may be dire:

Though the status of the wounded officers remains unclear, the Sheriff’s office told News 11 the situation is “not looking good for us.”

UPDATE, 11:38 am ET: At least 3 of those injured in this morning’s shooting had non-critical injuries.


UPDATE, 11:41 am ET: Denver Sheriff’s ofc reporting that suspect has been shot and is believed to be dead.The number of deputies shot totaled 5. One deputy has died. Two civilians were also shot and wounded.
