White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is being slammed by Democrats and Republicans alike in the aftermath of her shameful non-answer Monday to a question asked about antisemitism during the daily press briefing.
For those who missed it, Jean-Pierre was asked by a reporter "What is Biden's level of concern right now about a potential rise of antisemitism in light of everything that's going on in Israel?" Her answer was to proclaim that the Biden White House had "not seen any credible threats" before pivoting to talking about the "disproportionate number of hate-fueled attacks" against "Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim."
Here is what she said in context (for anyone who might think she was taken out of context):
JEAN-PIERRE: So a couple of things. Um, look, we have not seen any credible threats. I know there's been always questions about credible threats and so, I just want to make sure that's out there.
But look, Muslims and those perceived to be Muslim have endured a disproportionate number of hate-fueled attacks, and certainly, President Biden understands that many of our Muslim, Arab, Arab-American, and Palestinian-American loved ones are worried about the hate being directed at their communities, and that is something you heard the president speak to in his address just last Thursday.
And so, one of the things that the president has done is directed his team, Homeland Security team to prioritize prevention and disruption of any emerging threats that could harm the Jewish, the Muslim, Arab Americans, or any other communities, and that is something the president has sought to do since day one.
In an attempted clean-up Tuesday on Twitter of what she said after bipartisan outrage ensued, Jean-Pierre made matters worse, stating in her first tweet that Biden and his team were "very concerned about a rise in antisemitism" before writing in her second that the Biden administration had "mobilized" Homeland Security to "address any potential threats" to "Jewish communities, as well as Muslim, Arab American, and Palestinian American communities."
In an update to this story, we've learned that Jean-Pierre is now claiming that she "misheard" the original question, which is why she gave the response she did:
“I did mishear the question,” Jean-Pierre said. “As I have footstomped many times from the podium and on the air, antisemitism is an abomination that this President has fought against his entire life; and I feel strongly about that work. That’s why, in the briefing room, I have blasted the repulsive increase in antisemitic rhetoric, conspiracy theories, and hate crimes in our nation, calling out that, tragically, this is a rising threat.”
Sorry, I'm not buying it for two reasons, one of them being that Biden's spokespeople have been notoriously dishonest over his time in office. The other reason is that she did mention Jewish people briefly in what she originally said, but it was towards the end of her statement with the focal point being on alleged threats to the Muslim community.
Further, as media critic Joe Concha observed, the briefing room was quiet when the question was asked, so how could she have "misheard" it?
The room was perfectly quiet and KJP absolutely heard the question. https://t.co/Ahkwg9Ku6k

So she knew good and well what the question was and chose to answer according to the talking points laid out in her briefing notebook.
In the immediate aftermath of Hamas' terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians on October 7th, Joe Biden embarrassed himself, his administration, and this country by essentially admitting that he didn't learn of the terrorist attacks until after he'd rolled out of bed, meaning no one bothered to let the President of the United States know that Israel was under attack until well after members of his administration had already issued early morning statements.
Their responses since then have not inspired a lot of faith and trust that they're doing the right thing by Israel, by its people, by the Americans who are still there being held hostage, and by Jewish Americans here at home who have loved ones in Israel and who are facing antisemitic threats themselves here.
Now is not the time for the "JV team" and all the mistakes and weaknesses that come with that. It's time for the A-Team's A-game. Unfortunately, we don't have that, because we have a POTUS and cabinet members who would rather tapdance around antisemitic Democratic members of Congress and their woke pro-Hamas allies than take an unequivocal stance on this war.
Jean-Pierre said during the Tuesday press briefing that moral clarity was especially important in times like these. Sadly, such clarity has been sorely lacking from BidenCo. since Day One of the Israel-Hamas war, and that is unlikely to change.
