Nothing former President Donald Trump says or does is small, so it only makes sense that on the day of his arraignment in Miami on 37 counts related to the classified documents probe his attorneys are coming out of the gate swinging big – and understandably so, considering what all is on the line here.
Alina Habba, an attorney and spokesperson for the 2024 GOP presidential candidate, gave a speech on the steps of the Miami courthouse where he is soon to be arraigned. In it, she pointed to the two-tier system of justice and also asserted that Joe Biden’s DOJ targeting his potential future opponent in the 2024 presidential race is something that you’re not supposed to see in America, that you typically only see these types of things happen “in dictatorships”:
“These individuals, Hillary Clinton [and] Joe Biden himself retained possession of classified documents yet have not been prosecuted. And none of them, came into possession of those documents while they were president. None of them were president, who as the head and sole member of the executive branch, has the power to summarily declassify documents.
The decision to pursue charges against President Trump while turning a blind eye to others is emblematic of the corruption that we have here. We are at a turning point in our nation’s history. The targeting, prosecution of a leading political opponent is the type of thing you see in dictatorships like Cuba and Venezuela.
It is commonplace there for rival candidates to be prosecuted, persecuted, and put into jail. What is being done to President Trump should terrify all citizens of this country. These are not the ideals that our democracy is founded upon. This is not our America. Thank you.”

Habba told Fox News Sunday she couldn’t envision any scenario where would Trump agree to any sort of plea deal:
She also told host Shannon Bream that there’s no way she could ever see Trump, who said Saturday he intends to remain in the presidential race, accepting a plea deal.
“You take a plea deal to make something go away,” Habba said. “That’s an admission of guilt. He would never admit guilt because there was nothing wrong with declassifying documents, taking documents with you.”
In addition to being on Trump’s legal team, Habba is also a senior advisor to MAGA Inc.
