Watch: Chicago's Woke Mayor-Elect Gives Hall of Shame Response to 'Teen Takeover' of City Streets

After disastrous Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot lost her bid for a second term back in February, there was a glimmer of hope that the city could conceivably return to some remote semblance of sanity at least on the crime front, considering one of the two candidates who made it to the runoff was a pro-law and order-type Democrat at a time when public safety routinely polled as a top concern for Windy City voters.

But Chicago being Chicago, it was not meant to be, and the winner of the April runoff to succeed Lightfoot was woke Cook County Board Commissioner Brandon Johnson, a soft-on-crime Democrat who is a proponent of defunding the police and a backer of so-called “criminal justice reform.”

Here we are some two weeks since Johnson’s victory, and Chicago is still blowing up. Over the weekend, a mob of hundreds of teens took to the streets, rioting and looting, firing guns off, allegedly attacking passersby and pulling people out of their cars and assaulting them.

Before we get to Johnson’s response, let’s take a look at some of the wild footage:

In the fiery aftermath of the chaotic and disturbing scenes, Johnson issued the following statement:

“In no way do I condone the destructive activity we saw in the Loop and lakefront this weekend. It is unacceptable and has no place in our city. However, it is not constructive to demonize youth who have otherwise been starved of opportunities in their own communities.

Our city must work together to create spaces for youth to gather safely and responsibly, under adult guidance and supervision, to ensure that every part of our city remains welcome for both residents and visitors. This is one aspect of my comprehensive approach to improve public safety and make Chicago livable for everyone.”

And on a news broadcast, Johnson again refused to condemn the rioters and looters even after being repeatedly asked if he condoned what they did. Instead, Johnson focused on how the perpetrators were allegedly “acting out of desperation” and said that you have to “pay attention to the cries that people have”:

Good grief. Just when you think it couldn’t get any worse than Lori Lightfoot, it actually does.

Rather fitting that Chicago will be hosting the 2024 Democratic National Convention, isn’t it? I’m sure that like most all other DNCs, the city will try to hide their homeless and criminal elements in an effort to put their best face out there, but as I’ve often heard, you can slap a fresh coat of paint on an old barn, but in the end it’s still an old barn.

As far as Johnson is concerned, well, Chicago voters, you get the kind of woketivists for who you voted. This is what happens when you keep putting the same kind of people in office while expecting a different outcome. And sadly, those who are victimized as a result are the ones who end up paying the harshest price.
