Edward Durr Just Lights up NJ Teachers’ Union After Ad Smearing Parents as ‘Extremists'

Not surprisingly, it appears that Democrats have learned absolutely nothing from their nasty attacks on concerned parents, as evidenced by a new ad put out by a New Jersey teachers’ union that bashes parents who are concerned with “woke” leftist agendas as “extremists.”

The New Jersey Education Association, which is a state affiliate of the NEA, put out a 15-second ad on Monday talking about how though New Jerseyans don’t agree on everything, one thing they all agree on is that “our kids deserve a world-class education.”

The bright, full-color ad then became ominously dark when the narrator proclaimed with images of angry parents in the background that “so when extremists start attacking our schools, that’s not who we are.”

Incredibly, one of the most politicized organizations in America laughably went on to accuse parents of wanting to play politics rather than help kids.

“People who only want to fight to score political points should take that somewhere else,” the ad concluded.

NJ State Sen. Edward Durr (R), who rose to national prominence in November 2021 when he came out of nowhere to beat the entrenched Democratic state senate leader, responded accordingly to the NJEA’s attack by standing up for parents and turning the NJEA’s arguments around on them:

“Despite what the NJEA says, parents are not extremists for expressing concerns about curriculum mandates or wanting to have a voice in their children’s education,” said Durr (R-3). “It’s another example of the NJEA being out of touch with parents and totally tone deaf to their concerns that sensitive topics such as sex education and gender identity are not appropriate for young kids. Frankly, the NJEA is taking an extreme position by attacking parents instead of listening to them.”

“Apparently the NJEA doesn’t see the irony of telling concerned parents to ‘take that somewhere else’ when they vehemently oppose school choice that would give parents that option,” added Durr. “They seem to have forgotten that our public schools exist to serve parents and their children, not the far-left politics of the union’s leadership. They shouldn’t be shocked that parents who feel ignored and marginalized are finally pushing back to right the ship.”

The article went on to talk about proposed legislation sponsored by Durr related to public education, including S-2833, which “Requires public referendum prior to local boards of education adopting or altering public school curriculum,” and S-585, which “Provides that [a] public school parent who objects to learning material or activity that parent considers harmful may receive [a] voucher from [the] school district to enroll student in [a] nonpublic school.”

Earlier this month, Durr also blasted the same teachers’ union over a Karen-like website they created that urges people to “help us identify issues in your district … whether it’s aggressive book banning, anti-inclusion activity, organized political groups, or any other problem you are facing.”

“This is outrageous that because parents want to voice their concerns and their opinions about their child’s education that they’re encouraging teachers and board members now to start making a list of concerned parents,” Durr said, according to NJ 101.5 radio station. “To me, that kind of – I don’t know how you would say – goes against the freedom of expression.”

“Just because they don’t agree with you, now you’re going to make a list about them,” NJ 101.5 also reported Durr as saying. “And who are you going to keep that list for? Where is it going to be notified to?”

The man has a point. I mean, let’s not forget how the Biden White House and Attorney Merrick Garland’s DOJ admittedly worked in concert with the powerful National School Boards Association to target concerned parents, who they insinuated were “domestic terrorists,” with FBI monitoring and action just a year ago.

The NJEA’s ad was reminiscent of the ugly attack Democrats in the Connecticut state senate tried to pull on parents as debates were heating up in state legislatures across the country in October 2021 and were also playing out in statewide contests like the Virginia gubernatorial race between Glenn Youngkin and Terry McAuliffe:

In any event, it’s good to see Durr continuing to take the fight to far-left Democrats in his first year in office and proving his “lack of experience!” critics wrong in the process. Because one doesn’t need to be a career politician to understand the con Democrats are trying to pull on the American people on a number of fronts, especially as it relates to the public education system.
