Virginia Republican Gives Barnburner Speech for the Ages After State Senate Dems Stall 'Born Alive' Bill

One of the most depraved and ghoulish things to watch in American politics is when pro-abortion Democrat politicians twist themselves into pretzels in order to justify voting against “Born Alive” bills proposed by pro-life Republicans.

Typically, what “Born Alive” bills are about are enshrining into law that doctors must provide life-saving care to an infant in the event it is born alive as the result of a botched medical abortion. Contra to what abortion fanatics say, they are not bills designed to “undermine Roe v. Wade” because nowhere in any of the “Born Alive” bills that have been proposed whether in the U .S. Congress or at the state level have you seen any language pertaining to banning abortions. It’s all about making sure care is provided for the baby.

The Virginia state legislature has been the scene of some pretty contentious debates about bills related to abortion in recent years, including one proposed bill by Democrat Delegate Kathy Tran in 2019 that would have effectively removed all protections for third-trimester babies, and sickeningly would have allowed an abortion to take place while a woman was in the middle of giving birth.

Disturbingly, then-Gov. Ralph Northam (D), who is also a pediatric neurologist, went on a radio program to justify his ghoulish support of Tran’s bills by saying that under the bill, an allegedly unviable baby that is born alive “would be kept comfortable … and would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired.”

Fast forward to March 2022, and Virginia Republicans and Democrats are embroiled in a related battle, except in this case it was over a “Born Alive” bill proposed by Republican Delegate Nick Freitas, a bill which would not only have required doctors to administer life-saving care to the baby but also called for its transport to a hospital for more extensive care.

Though the bill passed the Republican-controlled House in February, it was rejected by 11 Senate Democrats on the Rules Committee last Friday, and with March 12th being the last day of this legislative session, that means the bill is toast unless/until someone brings it up again during a future session.

As it turns out, that person will be Freitas, who on Wednesday gave one of the most compelling, emotional speeches you will ever hear in defense of babies born alive from botched abortions. The issue is personal for him, he said, because when his mother was pregnant with him that people recommended she abort him. He said that obviously, she chose not to, but it “cost her quite a bit to do it.”

Not only did Freitas promise to propose this legislation again, but he also took a blow torch to Democrats including the Planned Parenthood representatives who testified during the debate on the bill using tiresome talking points that don’t hold water:

Freitas said he attended the Senate committee meeting last week and listened to the testimony of a woman who survived a saline abortion. The late-term abortion procedure involves injecting a toxic salt solution into the womb to slowly scald the baby to death, which can take up to three days, and then inducing labor to deliver the dead baby.

Right after the abortion survivor’s testimony, he said a Planned Parenthood lobbyist testified that the bill is unnecessary and hateful, and its purpose is merely to stigmatize. Then, Democrat lawmakers voted to kill the bill.

Freitas said the moment reminded him of something his father, a homicide detective, had once told him: “I remember asking him, ‘How is it possible that people will do this to one another?’ and he said, ‘Nick, you will be shocked at the justification that is used by people to commit certain acts.’”

Later, he said his father told him, “’Nick, the worst part is not when you’re shocked, the worst part is when you stop being shocked.’”

Freitas went on to tell his colleagues that it was imperative in the face of defeats like the one his bill suffered that good men and women do not back down.

“…my father also taught me something else and that is when the innocent are in peril, the strong have an obligation and a duty to stand up and defend them even if they are the only ones to do it.”

“Reasonable people can disagree about a host of things,” he also stated. “Whether or not an innocent child should be given life-saving care after surviving a failed abortion attempt shouldn’t be one of them.”

Amen. Watch:
