State Rep. John Rogers (D) of Alabama is in hot water over recent remarks he made during a debate on a pro-life bill in the statehouse.
Fox News reports:
The Republican-controlled House in Alabama overwhelming approved a bill that would make it a felony to perform an abortion at any stage of a pregnancy — with a sole exemption for women whose health is at risk. The measure passed with a 74-3 vote. The bill will now advance to the state Senate.
However, one of the state-level opponents to the anti-abortion legislation, Democratic Rep. John Rogers of Birmingham, spoke out against the vote.
“Some kids are unwanted, so you kill them now or you kill them later. You bring them in the world unwanted, unloved, you send them to the electric chair. So, you kill them now or you kill them later,” Rogers said.

Rogers also said abortion should be an option for women in cases where their unborn children are “retarded” or “half-deformed.”

Amazingly, Rogers says he’s not a proponent of abortion but…:

He also stated he might propose legislation to castrate men in response to the pro-life bill:

John Rogers, the rambling, unintelligible psychopath who said we have to kill kids now or kill them later, has been in office in Alabama since 1982. A literal crazy person has managed to stay in office for 37 years. Somehow I do not find this fact in the least bit surprising.

When I first saw this story come across my social media feeds last night, I wasn’t sure if I should believe it or not. It originally came from an obscure source I’d never heard of, and there was no video accompanying the report. A couple of hours later, though, video surfaced and I watched in horror as Rogers callously spoke out in favor of aborting “unwanted”, “retarded”, or “half-deformed” children.
One of the reasons Rogers’s remarks horrified me so much was because I was once pro-abortion. I made similar comments at that time in my life in justifying my position on the issue.
I have carried so much guilt and shame over my old beliefs on abortion and how I rationalized my position. To see an actual elected official putting into words what Democrats and feminists typically only whisper about abortion rights in back rooms absolutely sickened me, and brought everything back.
This is a common excuse given by pro-choicers on abortion. I heard it often when I was a proponent of abortion, and I’ve heard it in “mixed” political company since. Democrats are just usually smart enough not to say it on camera.
Rogers, with his remarks, has pulled off the left’s mask on this issue. Just as Va. Democratic Governor Ralph Northam and Democratic House Delegate Kathy Tran did with their cold comments on infanticide back in February.
As Alexandra DeSanctis writes:
While Rogers’s defense of abortion is certainly chilling, it’s also a striking reminder of how rarely abortion-rights activists openly admit the reality of the right they are demanding. Most often, they dismiss an unborn human being as being somehow inhuman, or a “clump of cells,” or a parasite within the mother. With his horrifying comment, Rogers has exposed those lies, admitting, as abortion defenders so rarely do, that every abortion procedure — no matter when or how it takes places — intentionally ends an innocent human life.
