As we reported earlier, the Biden administration got off to a rocky start within hours of the inauguration festivities when not only Joe Biden was spotted not wearing a mask while on federal property, but family members and his press secretary Jen Psaki were seen doing the same.

Their actions were a direct violation of the first executive order Biden issued in his presidency hours earlier, an EO that mandated masks be worn at all times while on federal property during the pandemic:

Earlier today, Psaki was asked about Biden and his family appearing at the Lincoln Memorial without wearing masks – not by anyone from the Media Mask Patrol who used to hound the Trump administration incessantly about mask-wearing, but by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy, whose made clear the reason he was asking about the maskless Bidens had less to do with mask-shaming and more to do with double standards.

“Why weren’t President Biden and all members of the Biden family masked at all times last night if he signed an executive order that mandates masks on federal lands at all times?” Doocy inquired while wearing a mask in the press briefing room.

Psaki, who wasn’t wearing a mask, responded by saying Biden “was celebrating an evening, a historic day in our country. And certainly, he signed the mask mandate because it’s a way to send a message to the American public about the importance of wearing masks, how it can save tens of thousands of lives. We take a number of Covid precautions, as you know,” she proclaimed while listing examples of those precautions. “I don’t know that I have more for you on it than that.”

Doocy did not let her slide on her non-answer.

“But as Joe Biden often talks about, it is not just important the example of power but the power of our example, was that a good example for people watching who might not pay attention normally?” Doocy asked in a follow-up question.

Psaki’s answer gave up the game.

“I think the power of his example is also the message he sends by signing 25 executive orders — including almost half of them related to Covid,” she stated. “The requirements that we’re all under every day here to ensure we’re sending that message to the public. Yesterday was a historic moment in our history. He was inaugurated as President of the United States. He was surrounded by his family. We take a number of precautions, but I think we have bigger issues to worry about at this moment in time.”

And there you have it. As long as it’s a Democrat celebrating a special day, it’s ok. Besides: “I think we have bigger issues to worry about at this moment in time.”

Basically what has happened here is that the Biden administration has undercut the left’s entire argument about the importance of wearing masks in a matter of 24 hours by suggesting that it’s okay to do it on special occasions:

Here are the New Mask Exception Rules, for anyone wondering:

What Psaki did today was expose Democrats by saying the quiet part out loud: That there are special rules for Democrats that don’t apply to Republicans when it comes to wearing masks.

Good to know that we’ve gotten that out of the way.
