During a recent campaign stop in Avoca, PA, President Trump stirred up the large crowd in attendance by reminding them of the liberal bias that is rampant in the mainstream media.
He started off by talking about the left-wing rioters who had wreaked havoc in states like Pennsylvania and Minnesota over the last few months by way of beating people up and setting fire to buildings. He zeroed in on what happened in Minneapolis in particular in the early days of the riots back in May, where entire city blocks were destroyed by far-left anarchists described by mainstream media reporters as “mostly peaceful protesters.”
Trump then brought up MSNBC anchor Ali Velshi, who notoriously described the fires burning and riots going on behind him at the time as “not, generally speaking, unruly.”
For those who missed Velshi’s live “report” at the time, here’s a flashback:
MSNBC reporter just now: "I want to be clear on how I characterize this. This is mostly a protest. It is not generally speaking unruly."

Paraphrasing what Velshi said at the time, Trump pretended to be Velshi and said in a mocking tone “and this is a friendly protest.” He did this, Trump noted, while behind him “the entire city was burning.”

Velshi, who has been on Trump’s radar before, became triggered upon hearing the news of the president’s mentioning him at the rally, and had this to say in response:
On the day before an election, in a state (PA) where he is trailing Biden & MUST win, in front of a crowd that likely has no idea who I am, and has never watched me on TV.
Why is he still talking about me? https://t.co/YZrTXHE3ZW

Even if most of the people at the rally didn’t know Velshi by name, they probably knew him by how Trump described his “reporting” during the riots. Velshi’s become pretty infamous in conservative circles for what he did in Minneapolis.
I don’t have the inside track on why Trump referenced him during his speech, but if I had to take a guess it’s because Trump likely knows that it’s a moment in media history that should never be forgotten:
Face it, Ali, your Baghdad Bob-ing the Minneapolis riots should never be forgotten. https://t.co/aFS5SLaAaN

Velshi’s outright gaslighting about the horror unfolding on Minneapolis streets became emblematic of the sorry state of the mainstream media as the riots and protests continued on for months and months, and as the gaslighting at other news outlets like CNN reached fever pitch.
People are sick and tired of being lied to, are fed up with reporters telling them what they (the reporters) want to them to hear instead of what’s actually happening and continues to happen. Like the talk about how the vast majority of BLM protests this year have been “mostly peaceful.” It’s BS, and people who aren’t buried neck-deep in woke dogma understand that.
That’s why Trump is “still talking about” you, Mr. Velshi. It’s a reminder to voters that if they still want a leader who calls out media leftists for who and what they are – and for what they’re trying to do, then Trump is their guy.
