Several of my RedState colleagues wrote over the weekend about the unhinged media/Democrat reactions to President Trump’s stirring Mount Rushmore speech from Friday, reactions that were both predictable and annoying at the same time.
Not only were their reactions to the speech predictable, but so was their newfound disdain for Mount Rushmore itself.
Going by CNN’s “report” on how Trump was giving a speech in front of a “monument of two slaveowners and on land wrestled away from Native Americans” and the New York Times’s hit piece on how Mount Rushmore was allegedly “sculpted by a man who had strong bonds with the Ku Klux Klan”, some might never know how the media and Democrats alike once revered the monument.
Thankfully, David Rutz at the Free Beacon put together a supercut of Democrats like former presidential candidate and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) praising the monument as CNN characterized it in “grand” terms, of MSNBC media figures like former host Chris Matthews appearing to be in awe while standing in front of the monument and describing it, and current MSNBC host Al Sharpton wondering out loud whether or not President Obama’s image should be put on the monument.
Watch:
Former MSNBC host Chris Matthews cut a "Lean Forward" ad in front of Mount Rushmore in 2012. When Barack Obama visited it in 2008, CNN's Jim Acosta called it "a fitting campaign stop for a presidential contender looking to make history."

It’s quite the then-vs.-now contrast of how some of the same news outlets and leftists who once viewed the monument as one of the things that made America great have conveniently had a change of heart on it because Trump had the audacity to make one of the most patriotic speeches of his presidency in front of it.
Here’s a bonus clip from MSNBC via Tom Elliott:

… and here’s a reminder of what Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), a Biden vice presidential hopeful, once said about Mount Rushmore:
"Remember that the President at Mt. Rushmore was standing on ground that was stolen from Native Americans who had actually been given that land during a treaty."
—Tammy Duckworth (July 5, 2020)I wonder what changed in the past 5 years…

What’s changed? A Democrat’s not president anymore, that’s what.
