Unfortunately, the Democrat/media-driven rush to “cancel” anyone who doesn’t participate in left-wing groupthink in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd has not been confined to professors, media figures, and pro-sports icons.

Cancel culturalists on the left have also gone after classic movies like “Gone With the Wind” and successful TV shows like “Cops” and “Live PD.” They’re even targeting the popular kids show “Paw Patrol” because apparently cartoons of cute dogs dressed up as policemen and firefighters was offensive or something.

Independent journalist Lara Logan, who along with fellow independent journo Andy Ngo has thoroughly documented the rise of the violent left-wing terror group Antifa over the years, was on Sean Hannity’s program Thursday night and zeroed in on the biggest reason why canceling programs like “Cops” and “Live PD” is so troubling:

“It is sort of extraordinary that they want to remove any image out there that is inspiring for kids, that shows what policemen are supposed to be and what they can be and that casts them in a heroic light.”

“If you remove all these TV shows that not only show transparency … you also remove what a good cop looks like,” Logan added. “Then what are the role models for people and for kids out there? They’re gone.

“So the only images you ever see, then, of policemen is when they can capture an image of someone in riot gear or someone who is armed, with an unarmed person or someone who looks like a victim on the ground, and sometimes they are victims and sometimes they’re not,” she went on.

“If we remove all images of what policemen are supposed to be, then what kind of role model is that?” she said. “It’s part of the erasing history [mission].”

I don’t think Logan’s point can be emphasized enough.

From what I’ve read and people I’ve talked to over the last couple of days, the prevailing wisdom appears to be that “Cops” and “Live PD” were axed because of the mistaken belief that they glorified police violence, didn’t give those stopped by the police the benefit of the doubt, and triggered leftists.

The real reason those shows are gone – at least for now, anyway – has more to do with their positive portrayals of law enforcement officers. If those programs are pulled off the air, we get to see less of what law enforcement officers have to deal with on any given day, less of their human side, and less of the physical and emotional toll their highly stressful jobs take on them.

What we’ll see more of are the exceptions to the rule, the cases where there is an officer-involved incident of violence or death of a suspect in police custody. And as Logan noted, those clips will show us that the officer was either clearly in the wrong or clearly in the right, or perhaps won’t be conclusive enough one way or the other. But the media, Democrats, and left-wing activists will put the blame squarely on the police 99% of the time video evidence surfaces, even when the evidence doesn’t support that narrative.

A key mission of radical leftist groups like Black Lives Matter and Antifa is to erase from history anything or anyone inconvenient to their “cause.” That’s why statues must be pulled down, history books must be altered, and positive images and videos of officers in the line of duty must go.
