If there's one thing the fraud scandals in Minnesota have affirmed for us beyond how deep the fraud and corruption go in the Democrat-run state, it's how utterly rotten to the core the corporate media industrial complex truly is.
Oh, they'll be quick to tell you how much "reporting" they've done on some of the scandals, some of which date back several years. But what they'll leave out is that in most cases it was either bare minimum reporting, stories that came in response to investigative digging done by others, or reporting designed to discredit the accusers and cast doubt on the allegations against the Somali community and their Democrat enablers in city and state government.
Case in point:
Yes, the legacy media have covered the Minnesota Somalian fraud.

What people are upset about is that they often haven’t done a good job, or have turned the massive fraud story into a sob story about the Somalian community in Minnesota. pic.twitter.com/3ls134jgI5
And now, with the explosive video from independent journalist Nick Shirley on the "Quality Learing Center" and several other day care centers in the state going viral and attracting the attention of the Trump administration in a big way, the legacy media's biggest priority seems not to be on determining if the allegations of fraud are true, but instead on casting doubt on Shirley's credibility.
We'll get to the most egregious (and disturbing) example in a moment, but let's take a look at this one first:
CNN has already gone after @nickshirleyy, attempting to write off his reporting in Minnesota and lamenting his lack of “fact checks” and “guardrails.”
— Drew Holden (@DrewHolden360) December 30, 2025
I’m not sure I would hang my hat on the legacy media’s “fact checks” or “guardrails” but at least CNN accurately reported that… pic.twitter.com/b9OgNFpFMb
Yeah, because if anyone should be trusted on "fact checks" and "guardrails," it's CNN.
But while that was pretty predictable, it was far tamer than this from Politico senior legal affairs reporter Josh Gerstein, who, just three months after Charlie Kirk was assassinated, seemed to suggest that it was okay for independent journalists to get shot for the crime of WrongSpeak:
At some point, the amateur effort to knock on doors of home daycares intersects with robust stand-your-ground laws
— Josh Gerstein (@joshgerstein) December 30, 2025
The next day, he tried to weasel out of what he said:
To observe that something is likely to happen or there's a serious risk of it happening is not to advocate for it happening
— Josh Gerstein (@joshgerstein) December 30, 2025
But X users weren't having it, with some taking issue with his legal framing while others called him out for the dark overtones of his tweet:
Shouldn't a legal affairs reporter know the difference between stand-your-ground law and castle doctrine?
— Pete Kaliner (@PeteKaliner) December 30, 2025
(Neither of which apply to someone knocking on a commercial business's door.)
Legal reporter at Politico has no idea about the law. Shocking
— The Drunk Republican (@DrunkRepub) December 30, 2025
Hey @politico, come get your guy who is advocating the murder of American journalists
— Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️ (@christopherrufo) December 30, 2025
So is the reason that you don't actually do journalism is because you're afraid of being shot?
— Stephen L. Miller (@redsteeze) December 30, 2025
How brave of you.
Have you considered that there wouldn't be "amateur efforts to knock on doors of home daycares" if there was a *professional effort to knock on doors of [fake] home daycares?* They used to call it "shoe leather journalism."
— Matt Whitlock (@MattWhitlock) December 30, 2025
Would those people also be likely to be shot?
And that is the real issue they have with Shirley, that in uncovering more alleged fraud in Minnesota on a massive scale, he did the job they refused to do because of their political allegiances. Because of that, Shirley must be vilified and ostracized. And, in what appears to be Gerstein's view at least, not even violent retribution against Shirley from the accused should be off the table.
Absolutely chilling.
If there was ever undeniable proof of the MSM's dereliction in their duty to thoroughly inform the public - and of how far they'll go to try and ruin people who expose their dereliction, this is it.
