At a time where there are cities in this country that look more like apocalyptic war zones than thriving cities in America, it’s beyond satisfying when news comes across the wire that shows the good guys are winning the war.
Such was the case on Monday, when 20-year-old Brian Bartels turned himself in to the Pittsburgh police for questioning after a tipster identified him as an alleged participant in the violent riots that took place in the city in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd:
Police said an anonymous tip from a co-worker of Mr. Bartels at Amazon identified him as one of the culprits who was involved in destroying the marked police SUV that was parked along Centre Avenue at Washington Place near PPG Paints Arena. Police are not accusing him of igniting the vehicle.
The attack on the empty police car marked one of the flashpoints in the hourslong protest that led to clashes with police and numerous arrests. Police said people, including Mr. Bartels, jumped on the car before it was set afire.
[…]
According to the police account, the man they identified as Mr. Bartels pulled a can of orange or red spray paint from a backpack and tagged the SUV.
The crowd cheered, and someone else jumped on the hood. Mr. Bartels, who is white, kicked the police vehicle and then threw something that broke the window, the complaint said.
A black woman “stepped in front of Bartels and pleaded for him to stop, he gave her the finger and then jumped on the car hood and stomped the windshield (breaking it further),” according to the complaint.
Before we get to how he was escorted into police HQ, let’s take a look at the video of the man alleged to be Bartels during the attack on the police SUV:
