Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy are two of many CNN correspondents and anchors who have have made it more than clear in recent weeks that they just can’t deal with White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany’s daily press briefing smack downs.
CNN “reporter” and “fact checker” Daniel Dale added himself to that growing list yesterday, but did so in a way that revealed his triggering has perhaps eclipsed that of his colleagues.
Here’s what Dale wrote on Twitter of McEnany calling out the White House press corps Friday for acting like they were against churches reopening:
These aren't "briefings" in any real sense. They're content mills for Fox and the "(Conservative X) (OWNS/SMACKS DOWN/DESTROYS)" conservative media world, with reporters used as Washington Generals-ish hapless foils for McEnany's pre-scripted zingers. https://t.co/FJljjKKZaU

Keep in mind that Dale works alongside CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta, who has literally become infamous for bringing “pre-scripted” gotcha questions designed to be zingers to every Trump press conference. So Dale’s scolding McEnany for being prepared with “pre-scripted zingers” to counter the other Acostas in the White House press briefing room is just flat out laughable and should not be taken seriously.
Also, should anyone really accept lectures about how the White House press briefings are allegedly not “briefings in any real sense” from the network that just two days prior ran a 25 minute puff piece segment between anchor Chris Cuomo and his brother Gov. Andrew Cuomo where Q-tip sizes were compared, laughs were shared, and no actual journalism took place? This in the middle of a major nursing home scandal that Gov. Cuomo is playing “pass the buck” on?
I don’t think so:
Now do your colleague Chris Cuomo's "serious" journalism where Q-tip props are brought in to tease his brother the governor of NY in the middle of a nursing home scandal of his making. And then maybe his fake "basement emergence" video. 🙄 🤡 https://t.co/Q08eQrveWW

It’s almost comical that “reporters” like Dale are whining about the fact that McEnany does her homework before conducting the press briefings. I mean, that’s part of the job – it’s part of a reporter’s job to come prepared with questions, and it’s part of a press secretary’s job to anticipate those questions and be prepared with answers.
That reporters in and outside of the White House press corps bubble have become so triggered that they can’t pull gotcha questions over on McEnany without her firing back with facts just adds another layer of proof to the accusation that many of them are more interested in playing political games than they are in actual reporting.
That’s never a good look, but especially during a pandemic when the American people look to the media to find out the answers to kitchen-table questions that actually matter.
