On Wednesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) was being interviewed alongside Vice President Mike Pence about the state’s response to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak when a reporter asked him yet another biased question about whether or not the data Florida was using to justify their reopening had been massaged in any way to make their numbers look better than they actually were.

Gov. DeSantis’s response was one for the ages. He went absolutely beast mode and listed out all the many different ways the media had been wrong about his response to the virus since day one, and even threw in a jab about how people from New York – the epicenter of the virus – were escaping to his state in droves to get away from it.

For those who missed it, watch below. It was a thing of beauty:

As you might expect, CNN’s tag team media duo of Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy were none too pleased with DeSantis’s epic smack down of the media. In their nightly media newsletter, here’s what they wrote:

Stuck in his safe space: DeSantis hides on Fox

Oliver Darcy writes: Speaking Wednesday alongside VP Mike Pence, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis took a swipe at the media. DeSantis said that news outlets have pushed a “partisan narrative” and argued that he has been unfairly portrayed in an unflattering light. In short, he contended that he hasn’t earned the recognition he deserves for leading his state through the crisis. Which leads me to my question: If DeSantis is proud of the work he has done and would like it spotlighted in the media, why won’t he appear anywhere outside Fox News?

A CNN spokesperson told me that the network has repeatedly requested he appear on-air. Those invitations have not been accepted. And a rep for MSNBC and NBC News said that the network has invited him to appear on both networks. CBS, too. DeSantis has not accepted any of the offers.

This is so hilariously off-base that it’s hard to know where to start.

First things first, last I checked, the media outlets DeSantis talked to on Wednesday when he was with Pence were local and national outlets alike, not just Fox. Yet he answered their questions, even some that were directed at Pence that really should have been directed to him.

Secondly, my RS colleague Brad Slager had the perfect reaction to Darcy’s and Stelter’s handwringing: “We have been trashing DeSantis for months – why won’t he come here and…let us trash him in person…?!?!”” Brad’s translation of what they both were actually saying was spot-on.

Thirdly, in contrast to how CNN and other national media outlets have falsely portrayed DeSantis as a ruthless governor with blood on his hands who is more concerned with his state’s economy than people’s lives, CNN has treated NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) and his disastrous response to the virus outbreak with pillow-plumping and kid gloves – and Q-tip props, as his brother Chris did earlier this week.

There has been zero – ZERO criticism from Stelter and company regarding his own network’s dereliction of duty to report on the numerous Wuhan virus leadership failures and mismanagement scandals that have taken place on Cuomo’s watch – and oftentimes at his direction.

There’s also been zero criticism from either Stelter or Darcy over the fact that Cuomo rarely appears on any network other than CNN – except for when he does cutesy interviews with late night TV show hosts like Seth Meyers and talks about the “Cuomosexual” phenomenon and all the other irrelevant garbage that has nothing to do with combating the Wuhan virus and getting his state back on track.

I have two words for Stelter’s and Darcy’s pearl-clutching over over DeSantis choosing not to give his ilk the time of day: Sit. Down.
