If you spent any time at all on the Twitter machine Friday night (because what else is there to do right now, anyway?), you probably saw a lot of people tweeting about day two of the 2020 NFL draft.
Because the draft has had to be done virtually this year out of an abundance of caution due to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, there were some most unusual moments caught on video, including a live shot of New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick’s dog sitting in for him at his computer in between picks.
Most of the commentary seen on Twitter last night was lighthearted, fun, sports-centered, with people appearing relieved to be able to take their minds off the moral and economic realities in America right now, if only for a few hours.
Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), however, took a different route with his commentary on which teams were picking who in the draft yesterday – at least at first.
Murphy started off by noting how he, like the rest of the common folk watching at home, was really interested in watching how the draft played out. As it often is with Democrats, though, there was a “but” involved (literally and figuratively, as you will soon see).
In a late-night rant, Murphy tweeted about how “immoral” the “football syndicate” allegedly is, and how college football allegedly takes advantage of trainers and players alike throughout their college careers at the expense of their health:
I’m glued to the NFL draft like most other sports fans, but it just reminds me how immoral the football syndicate is.
College football trains players for the pros, pays the trainees nothing, and forces them to endure 3 years of head trauma before getting a single paycheck.

Murphy dug in and went full woke 15 minutes later, virtue signaling about the “filthy rich, almost exclusively white coaches, GMs, and team presidents, drafting almost exclusively African-American players who have been forced to work for free for 3 years”:
Hard not to notice all the shots of filthy rich, almost exclusively white coaches, GMs, and team presidents, drafting almost exclusively African-American players who have been forced to work for free for 3 years in order to get a shot to be chosen.

And yet 15 minutes after that, he was rah-rahing and cheerleading the New York Giants’ third round selection of UConn football player Matt Peart who is … African-American:
Giants take a Husky in the third round! Nice!
Congrats to Matt Peart, a big part of last year’s fantastic UConn O-Line, and welcome to #GiantsNation. #NFLDraft2020 #UConnFootball

Murphy’s bizarre switcheroni on the draft left some wondering if he might have had a little too much to drink:
Is he drunk tweeting?!

He pretended UConn had a good anything last year so he cant be sober

🙋🏻♂️ So the NFL is basically the slave trade… but you still love it?

For good measure, Murphy’s tweets were screen-grabbed, just in case he sobers up figures out what happened and deletes them later:

All that said, in my humble opinion the NFL should make virtual drafts happen EVERY year after this one, because we are just not going to get this type of in-depth coverage any other way:
