'Your Job': Nikki Haley Schools 'Squad' on What a House Representative Actually Is After AOC Skips the SOTU

As my RedState colleague Brad Slager wrote last night, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) dramatically announced on Twitter Tuesday that she would not be attending President Trump’s State of the Union address.

To recap: In a couple of tweets that oozed with the patented narcissism AOC is known for, the freshman congresswoman stated she would “not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct & subversion of the Constitution” and that it was a choice she “did not take lightly.”

Her fellow Squad member Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) also did not attend, while the other two – Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) utterly embarrassed themselves during the speech before storming out like petulant children.

Before the speech started, former Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley weighed in on AOC’s decision to skip the address in a scalding tweet that might as well have been addressed to the rest of the Queenie Quartet:

Seriously. I mean this is the very definition of what members of Congress are supposed to be doing for their respective constituencies. It’s extremely bad form to flake out on a state of the union address done by a president from the opposing party just because you don’t like them – and even worse to do it under the laughable pretense of standing up for the Constitution (especially considering AOC’s already shown she has no respect for it whatsoever anyway).

Not only that, but by bowing out, you’ve effectively excluded your voice from the mix in doing so, as RedState editor-at-large Kira Davis noted yesterday:

AOC held an Instagram live chat in response to the SOTU in which she, among other things, praised House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s drawn-out ripping up of Trump’s speech on national TV as an “audacious move.”

Birds of a feather and all that.
