As Bonchie wrote Thursday, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) “reached a new level of depravity” at the CNN climate change town hall Wednesday with his endorsement of third-world population control as a method to save the environment.

A quick recap:

The questioner, identified by CNN as a teacher named Martha Readyoff, said that she realized linking population control to climate was a topic “poisonous for politicians, but it’s crucial to face.”

“Empowering women and educating everyone on the need to curb population growth seems a reasonable campaign to enact. Would you be courageous enough to discuss this issue and make it a key feature of a plan to address climate catastrophe?”

“Well, Martha, the answer is yes,” Sanders said.

“The answer has everything to do with the fact that women in the United States of America, by the way, have a right to control their own bodies, and make reproductive decisions,” the senator said to applause from the crowd.

“The Mexico City agreement which denies American aide to those organizations around the world that allow women to have abortions or even get involved in birth control to me is totally absurd,” Sanders continued. “So I think, especially in poor countries around the world where women do not necessarily want to have large numbers of babies, and where they can have the opportunity through birth control to control the number of kids they have, is something I very, very strongly support.”

Watch:

Though some have laughed about Sanders’ response, in reality it’s deeply disturbing and should be condemned by everyone – including the other candidates and including any journalist who interviews him and asks him questions about his stance at a later time.

Unfortunately, that won’t happen because the mainstream media is not in the business of calling Democrats to the carpet for their more bizarre and inhumane positions on the issues. And his fellow Democratic candidates won’t do it because they’d rather appear “climate woke” than right.

Fortunately, Republican politicians suffer from no such restraints, and Sen. Ted Cruz led the way in tweeting out a fitting response, quipping that Sanders had secretly picked a certain Marvel villain for his VP running mate whose plans for the world are not that far off from Bernie’s abortion-as-population-control position.

Here’s what Cruz wrote:

… and later he expanded beyond Bernie and compared the entire Democratic presidential field to Thanos:

Perfect.
