2020 Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA-15) wants women to know he’s on their side.
He’s pledged to pick one for his vice presidential running mate should he win the nomination.
He’s committed to passing the mic to women to show he respects the diversity of their opinions (except when he doesn’t).
And he’s now on record in support of adding an Equal Rights Amendment to the Consitution.
Why? Because the word “woman” doesn’t appear in the Constitution, y’all.
Do you know how many times the word "Woman" is mentioned in the Constitution?
Zero.
That is unacceptable. Women must be equally represented and equally protected. #ERANow

Needless to say, the tweet was seriously ratioed:
Several Twitter users were quick to point out that while Swalwell was technically right, his underlying point was, well, wrong:
“Man” isn’t in the Constitution either.

It doesn’t. It uses “he,” but that’s not the same thing in the English language.

US Constitution number of mentions:
Woman or Women – 1 (Amendment 19 titled "Women's Suffrage"
Man or Men – 0
Person or Persons – 49— Isabela (@IsabelaRM1) May 1, 2019
And besides, the ERA wouldn’t add the word “woman” to the Constitution, either:
Section 1. Equality of Rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
But as long as we’re gonna go with “words that aren’t in the Constitution”, there are also these:
WORDS IN CONSTITUTION
❌ woman
❌ man
❌ fair / fair share
❌ abortion
❌ health / healthcare
✅ arms
— Razor (@hale_razor) May 1, 2019
Same number of times as:
Gun control
Socialism
EPA
Income inequality
Fair share
Income tax
Free college
Free healthcare
Reparations
Medicare
Medicaid
Common core
Welfare (as in free food)
Student loansAnd the list goes on….

“Transgender” is not mentioned, either. What were the founding fathers thinking? I assume we should amend, no?

They have have a point!
