President Trump was in Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home state of Minnesota on Monday for a public meeting with business leaders. After the meeting wrapped up, he was asked about his Friday video tweet that criticized Omar controversial remarks about 9/11.

Would he apologize for it? “No, not at all,” said Trump:

“Look, she’s been very disrespectful to this country. She’s been very disrespectful, frankly, to Israel. She is somebody that doesn’t really understand life. Real life,” Trump told the ABC affiliate in Minneapolis where he was touting his tax cuts.

Trump went on to question Omar’s loyalty to the country.

“It’s unfortunate,” the president said. “She’s got a way about her that’s very, very bad, I think, for our country. I think she’s extremely unpatriotic and extremely disrespectful to our country.”

Democrats, including Omar, have accused Trump of deliberately trying to incite violent threats against her. Omar says the level of threats she has faced since the video tweet was published have increased.

Trump is right in not apologizing. Omar, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14), Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI-13) and other Democratic women frequently use this line of attack when faced with criticism from their political opposition – and over much less contentious topics than national security and terrorism.

You’re putting us in danger with what you say, they’ll tweet. We’re women of color, and you’re doing this deliberately, they assert. They seem to think if they were white males that their inflammatory comments would not be thrust in the national spotlight (they are, of course, wrong).

Democrats, including the three amigas above, have relentlessly accused Republicans of being Nazis, white supremacists, child killers and terrorists (for supporting the NRA). But yet when their rhetoric gets turned around on them, they want to cry foul and hide behind the women of color shield?

I don’t think so.

It’s a form of shutuppery, and no Republican worth their salt should bow to their deliberate attempts at shutting down the debate and declaring victory.
