It’s an understatement to say that yesterday’s House Judiciary Committee showdown between conservative activist Candace Owens and Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA-33) and Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY-10) shook up the political world .

Not only was it C-SPAN’s most watched Twitter video from a House hearing, but some pretty high-profile Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz (TX) have stepped up to defend her against Lieu’s and Nadler’s shameful personal attacks and attempts at shushing.

We’ll get to that in a minute. But first, a quick recap. This morning, Red State‘s Brandon Morse wrote about how everything went down yesterday:

Lieu played a clip of Owens during a Q&A where she was asked if she had a problem with nationalism, wherein Owens said she did not and that the only reason it has a bad name is that it was first made villainous by Adolf Hitler.

Without giving Owens a chance to explain herself, Lieu turned to Eileen Hershenov, senior vice president of policy at the Anti-Defamation League, and asked if comments like this fuel white nationalism.

This infuriated Owens, who was then finally given a chance to respond by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa.) who apologized and asked if she’d like to respond to the clip.

“I think it’s pretty apparent that Mr. Lieu thinks that black people are stupid and will not pursue the full clip in its entirety,” Owens began.

She was then cut off by Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) who said it was improper to disparage a member of the committee and that Owens will not do that again, adding that she called Lieu “stupid.”

The symbolism of a black woman in the hot seat basically being told to shut up by powerful male Democrats was not lost on Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) who blasted Lieu and Nadler in a tweet this morning:

Ouch!

I speak from firsthand experience on how Democrats absolutely detest it when you remind them of their party’s shameful history on slavery, lynching, Jim Crow laws, and other ways they dehumanized black Americans. They usually angrily respond by saying, in so many words, that those racist Democrats “left the party in droves” after the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964.

And when you point out that not even that is true, then they really go ballistic. Facts may not care about your feelings, but facts definitely hurt the left’s feelings.
