Rep. Dan Crenshaw (TX-2) denied a report that House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Rick Crawford (AR-1) hit him with a three-month ban on international travel following an alcohol-related incident.

The report, via Punchbowl News, alleges that an episode involving Crenshaw that prompted the ban took place during a congressional trip to Mexico in August. A Mexican official reportedly made a crude joke about a woman who was present. The quip made her feel "uncomfortable."

Crenshaw, according to the outlet, toasted the remarks, prompting Crawford to seek his removal from the panel entirely. That request was made during a "heated" meeting between the two gentlemen and House Speaker Mike Johnson. Johnson denied it.

However, Crenshaw, according to multiple sources the outlet spoke with, sought to cool down the situation by offering to disband a cartel task force he had chaired.

Still, Crawford moved to implement a temporary ban on travelling with the committee, something he viewed "as being authorized by the GOP leadership."

Punchbowl reports that Rep. Crenshaw viewed the punishment as "unfair" because the incident was "blown out of proportion." And the congressman continued that defense in a series of posts on X.

"Me and another member did a toast with Mexican generals and apparently a staffer got offended," he dismissed. "That’s the story with a clickbait title to get people to sign up for PunchBowl News, a liberal media outlet."

"Sorry, everyone, I truly wish I had a better story to tell you about my time in Mexico. But the truth is in fact very boring."

Crenshaw goes on to insist he was part of a congressional delegation scheduled for early October, but the government shutdown nixed those plans.

"Must be a pretty loose 'ban,'" he fired back, repeatedly referring to the story as "clickbait."

The Texas Republican does not deny the offending toast taking place.

Additionally, Punchbowl News Founder Jake Sherman countered Crenshaw's claim, pointing out that the CODEL he was to travel with in October was a privately funded event through the House Ethics Committee.

He point-blank reiterated that the ban on "international taxpayer travel" was implemented for 90 days.

Crenshaw has long had a strained relationship with conservatives who view him as embedded with establishment Republicans due to his strong advocacy for U.S. foreign aid to Ukraine and interventionist policies often labeled as "neocon."
