President Trump earned support from across the political aisle as Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) introduced a bill Wednesday seeking to codify his executive order slashing the price of prescription drugs.
The President signed the order earlier this week, seeking to prevent pharmaceutical manufacturers from charging Americans high drug prices while giving steep discounts to other wealthy nations.
It is designed to "bring the prices Americans and taxpayers pay for prescription drugs in line with those paid by similar nations."
Khanna, in a series of social media posts, said he supported Trump's order and would introduce it "exactly as written as legislation to be bipartisan [and] get something done for the American people."
He did just that earlier today.
Today, I am introducing legislation to codify President Trump's executive order, ensuring Americans do not pay more than people in other countries for drugs. Will Congress members stand with $16 billion in Big Pharma money, or with the American people by co-sponsoring this… pic.twitter.com/W2eXfoB5bv

Trump Announces One of 'Most Consequential Executive Orders' in US History to Tackle Big Pharma
"I rise today to introduce as legislation, President Trump's executive order for the most favored nation status on drug pricing," Khanna announced on the House floor. "My legislation will codify President Trump's executive order, which basically says that Americans should not pay more for drugs than people in other countries and other parts of the world."
It's a common-sense order, but with a party sorely lacking in the sense department - common or otherwise - it's still a jarring image to see support for the President coming from a Democrat lawmaker.
Perhaps even more jarring? Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) indicated he would introduce a Senate version supporting Trump's effort to slash the cost of prescription drugs.
"I agree with President Trump: It is an outrage that the American people pay, by far, the highest prices in the world for prescription drugs," Sanders said in a statement. "It is beyond unacceptable that we pay, in some cases, ten times more for the same exact prescription drugs than people in other major countries."
Sanders and Khanna are both operating off the premise that Big Pharma, ever protective of its profits, would file lawsuits to stop the executive order. But if Congress can pass it as law ...
If Trump is serious about making real change rather than just issuing a press release, he will support legislation I will introduce to ensure we pay no more for prescription drugs than people in other major countries.

If we come together, we can get it passed in a few weeks. pic.twitter.com/GtJC2aWSby
"If Trump is serious about making real change rather than just issuing a press release, he will support legislation I will soon be introducing to make sure we pay no more for prescription drugs than people in other major countries," Sanders added.
The Democrat senator suggested that if both parties could agree on the matter, the legislation would be "passed in a few weeks."
Think about that for a minute—Sanders just uttered the words, "I agree with President Trump." Khanna is urging his colleagues to support Trump's order.
It took about six months to go from 'he's Hitler' to 'let's try to work with him.'
