House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has issued a statement declaring flags will be flown at full-staff at the Capitol for Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday.

Liberals aren't going to be "giddy" anymore once they hear this news.

Johnson's office issued the statement earlier today, a response to a potential conflict between traditional Inauguration Day decorum and the rare necessity to honor the passing of a former president in Jimmy Carter.

The Speaker has come up with a compromise.

“On January 20th, the flags at the Capitol will fly at full-staff to celebrate our country coming together behind the inauguration of our 47th President, Donald Trump," he said.

"The flags will be lowered back to half-staff the following day to continue honoring President Jimmy Carter.”

A reasonable compromise by any measuring stick. Well, unless you're a liberal who was hoping the silver lining in Carter's death was that he'd somehow ruin Trump's big day. And yes, those people were out there.

President Biden directed that flags across the nation be flown at half-staff until sunset on January 28, marking a 30-day mourning period in honor of Carter. The former president passed away on December 29th at the age of 100.

A New York Post report chronicled the reaction on social media, which showed Trump-haters were "giddy" over the prospect of seeing flags at half-staff during the inauguration, perhaps viewing it as a sign of disrespect or a nation in distress.

One person described it as “some kind of prophetic justice," while another mused that the move was “a huge middle finger to Trump.”

Johnson just turned the middle finger back on them.

Despite Long-Standing Tradition, Texas Gov. Abbott Orders Flags to Full-Staff for Trump's Inauguration

The move is not only a compromise considering the extraordinary events coinciding, but it's a bit of a tip of the cap to Trump. The president-elect was furious about the left-wing response to the flags being at half-mast.

"They think it’s so great, and are so happy about it because, in actuality, they don’t love our Country, they only think about themselves," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

"Nobody wants to see this (the flags at half-mast), and no American can be happy about it," he added. "Let’s see how it plays out. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

It's played out pretty well for him. Not so much for those hoping to see the lowered flags at the Capitol.

The reactions on social media to Johnson's call have been predominantly positive.

"That is the best compromise for everyone so we can all come together ❤️ in honoring both," one woman wrote.

"Excellent!" a US Army veteran added. "This is an appropriate way to recognize both events."

Other X users suggested all states follow Johnson's lead when it comes to the flag on government property come Inauguration Day. One such state has already done so.

As RedState's Ward Clark reported, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered all flags on buildings, facilities, and installations belonging to the state of Texas to be raised to full-staff on January 20th.

Trump is likely now the one feeling "giddy."
