In administration that will pursue strong government reform and bringing some fiscal sanity back to the federal budget, no better ally in those goals can be found than Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC). A solid conservative member of Congress and consistent advocate for good government, Mulvaney will be a true champion of fiscal restraint, balancing the budget, and limited and responsible spending. He also served in Congress with Vice President-elect Mike Pence, who is likely to have a hand in the decision making process on the director of the OMB, and the two will be great allies in the fight to roll back eight year of unmitigated expansion of federal power and spending.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the critical intersection between all government agencies where the budget for all federal government agencies is prepared. A strong conservative who will tirelessly work for the goal of balancing the budget while reforming government is the ideal candidate for this important office. Mulvaney has interviewed for the office, and has stated he is interested in appointment to the position.

I would love to the director of OMB,” Mulvaney was quoted by The State as saying, “That is where I think REAL improvements could be made in how the government is run.”

Mulvaney has once again requested a clean continuing resolution (CR) during the so-called lame duck session of Congress, in opposition to the typical politics-as-usual process of slipping unrelated legislation into the giant spending bill at the requests of various special interest groups. Mulvaney has sent a letter to Speaker Paul Ryan, that he and five other Republicans in Congress have signed, asking the speaker to bring a clean CR that does not include legislation such as language related to the Export-Import Bank quorum requirements, the Restoration of America’s Wire Act, and the United Mine Workers of America pension guarantees. Mulvaney wrote that including items like these, that should go through the normal process of committee hearings and markups floor amendments and conference reports rather than being hidden in the giant spending bills “runs afoul of regular order.”

Mulvaney also wrote in the letter, “We look forward to working with the new administration to accomplish the conservative agenda we all promised our constituents, and believe that a clean CR is the best way for that work to begin in January.”

A member of Congress, Mulvaney has consistently supported fiscal restraint and government reform. He has been a leader in the effort to repeal Obamacare, that has been so costly to millions of Americans who have lost jobs or have had full-time jobs turned into part-time jobs as a result. Mulvaney has strongly support border security, a priority in the Trump Administration, as well as establishing a strong record of support for the Tenth Amendment and restoring the balance between the power of the federal government and the states.

As President Trump faces the challenges of reforming government, repealing and replacing Obamacare, building the wall and security the border, and bring sanity back to the federal budget process, the new president can find no better ally than to appoint Mick Mulvaney to the position of Director of the OMB.
