It was Vice President JD Vance's turn on Thursday to stand in for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at the White House briefing while she is still on baby leave.
As we reported, he addressed a lot of questions about the Iran deal, and explained how $12.5 million in oil had already gone through the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday night, oil prices are dropping, and that everything was conditioned on Iran's performance. Of course, with Iran, that's always the big issue.

Vance had people laughing with a reply he gave to one reporter's question. First, he noted the president was joking when he commented on Vance getting the blame if the deal went south. Vance joked about the experience he had dealing with "hostile negotiations" - that he had just appeared on "The View."

"I have seen some progressive criticisms of me, personally, saying, 'What experience does the Vice President of the United States have with hostile, high-stakes negotiations?' And I would point those progressive critics to the fact that just two days ago, I spent over an hour on "The View." So, I actually have great experience in very hostile negotiations. And I've...Look, Joy Behar is way tougher than the Iranians, and she and I are best friends now."
What Vance did on "The View" was quite something, dealing point by point with false stories and misperceptions that they'd been pushing for some time. He was even surprisingly met by some cheers from the audience.

I think he was being slightly facetious, saying they were "best friends." But he did seem to defang Joy Behar to some degree simply by calmly explaining how they were off on the various things they believed, and explaining the rationale behind the Trump administration's actions. He just dropped facts on them.
Behar even admitted that he did get through to her on a personal level (although she was a liberal and generally wouldn't vote for Republicans on a national level).
āIām getting a note here. You told him during the break that he should run for president because he had a good vibe,ā executive producer Brian Teta said to Behar.
āFor a Republican,ā Behar told Teta when asked about his āgood vibe.ā
That's a lot from her, which is a positive comment on Vance's powers of persuasion.
Vance's response was pretty funny in the briefing. But it's also a sad comment that that show, and the liberal media in general, has been so constantly antagonistic when it's Trump/Republicans, or if the facts may run against the Democratic narrative. Imagine if we didn't have that constant antagonism, how much more could get done? And good for him to venture into the lion's den to bring them some truth.
