Trump Rips to Shreds 'Fake News' Media Report About Iran Cutting Off Talks

I reported on Monday how Iranian state media was claiming that Iran had cut off the talks they had going on with the U.S., allegedly in protest of Israel's actions against Hezbollah.

As I pointed out, this was highly hypocritical, given that Hezbollah had attacked Israel, and Iran itself had fired at a U.S. base in Kuwait.

Turns out it was even more Iran being Iran than one might think.

President Donald Trump has now roasted that Iranian media report about the peace talks stopping, saying that this wasn't true, as my Townhall colleague Jeff Charles wrote. Trump explained on Truth Social:

Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the U.S.A., stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous. The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today. Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, “It’s time, one way or another, for you to make a Deal. You’ve been doing this for 47 years, and it cannot be allowed to go on any longer!”

So it sounds like game-playing once again by the Iranian media, probably to make the regime sound tough, and like they were doing something with Hezbollah getting pummeled, while still negotiating behind the scenes. Trump just exposed that gambit.

Then, too, the regime is such a mess - the left hand also doesn't necessarily know what the right hand is doing. Secretary of State Marco Rubio explained during a Congressional hearing on Tuesday that there was a lot of division and dysfunction in the regime - which was one of the reasons it was difficult to deal with them - and that was why negotiations have sometimes been protracted.

Rubio, speaking before the Senate Foreign Relations committee, told lawmakers that it often takes up to five days just to hear a response from the Iranian regime.

He said this is due in part to logistical reasons and communications difficulty within Iran, but also due to internal divisions.

The officials sent to represent Iran at the talks, such as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, have to defer to authorities in Tehran before agreeing to any aspect of a deal.

"You ultimately are negotiating with people who then have to negotiate within their own system to see what they're allowed to give and what they're allowed to agree to," Rubio said.

Bottom line, too? Iran's economy is crumbling under the blockade. Whatever they may say, they need to resolve that. Iran is already having trouble paying the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other security forces. As Rubio outlined, they're losing "hundreds of millions of dollars a day," not to mention everything that got taken out during the fighting, and that they are far worse off than they were six months ago. They're the guys on the short end of the stick here.

So the onus is on them, no matter how much they flail and dissemble.

Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
