There is now a ceasefire proposal on the table to settle the conflict in Iran. The proposal reportedly was presented to the U.S. and Iran by Pakistani, Turkish, and Egyptian mediators.

It involves a 45-day ceasefire, which includes opening the Strait of Hormuz.

The Pakistani-brokered plan emerged from intense ‌overnight contacts and proposes an immediate ceasefire, followed by negotiations on a broader peace settlement to be concluded within 15 to 20 days, a source aware of the proposals said on Monday.

Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, was in contact “all night long” with U.S. Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqhchi, the source said.

Dr. Anwar Gargash, who is an advisor to the president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), said that they would provide help to keep the Strait open, under the right deal. He also said they were "doubling down" on the relationship with the United States, and they considered us their "greatest security ally."

"The Strait of Hormuz cannot be held hostage by any country," said Gargash, adding that freedom of navigation through the waterway "has to be part and parcel of the settlement of any conflict with clear agreement on that."

Gargash said the UAE wants the war to end, but warned against a ceasefire that leaves the root causes of instability unresolved.

“We don’t want to see more and more escalation,” he said. “But we don’t want a ceasefire that fails to address some of the main issues that will create a much more dangerous environment in the region...notably (Iran's) nuclear programme, the missiles and drones that are still raining down on us and on other countries."

They've gotten hit a lot, so their position is completely understandable.

Word of the ceasefire proposal follows President Donald Trump's warning that if Iran didn't open the Strait, he was going to rain "hell" on them. He even trolled them a bit with the "Praise be to Allah" shot mentioned in the Fox video. An Iranian embassy account tried to troll him back, but they're not in a great position, given the U.S. military power.

Both sides are considering the proposal.

President Trump Unloads With Expletive-Filled Threat to Iran

Iran’s foreign ministry said on Monday that Tehran had formulated positions and demands based on its interests and communicated them through intermediaries. Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said details of the response would be announced in due time, but added negotiations were “incompatible with ultimatums and threats to commit war crimes.”

So Iran had better think seriously about that proposal, or a lot more action will be coming their way. But we'll have to see; they haven't shown a lot of sense so far in responding to such thoughts.

Editor's Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
