Cuban Leader Makes Stunning Statement About Negotiations With US

You may have noticed President Donald Trump making some big moves in the interests of the security of the United States.

He's changed the face of Venezuela, which is now no longer an antagonist, and has set it on a much better path as a potential partner in the Western hemisphere. That move then had an effect on another antagonist, Cuba, which was so reliant on Venezuelan oil. Trump said this was putting the Cuban regime near collapse, that they were at "the end of the line."

Now we may be seeing further evidence of that with moves in Cuba.

Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel confirmed Friday that Cuban officials recently held conversations with the U.S. government aimed at addressing long-standing differences between the two countries, though he cautioned that any potential agreement remains in the early stages.

"Cuban officials recently held conversations with officials from the U.S. government to look for solutions to the bilateral differences that exist," Diaz-Canel said during a press conference Friday morning.

He also acknowledged they were in deep trouble because of the fuel shortage.

Diaz-Canel also acknowledged that Cuba is facing a severe fuel shortage that is affecting everyday life across the island.

"For three months, no fuel ships have arrived. We are working under very adverse conditions that are having an impact on the lives of all our people," he said.

It's pretty stunning that they're admitting this.

In addition to what Diaz-Canel said, the government made another move that looked like they were trying to appeal to the U.S., saying they would be releasing 51 people from prison amid the pressure from the Trump administration for changes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the release will take place in the coming days. It cast the release as an act of goodwill. They did not identify the prisoners, but they do have many political prisoners who should be released — they need to release all of them.

That's pretty historic that they've been forced to the table. The Trump administration was also reportedly in conversations with several people close to Cuba’s ultimate authority, Raúl Castro.

I expect Cuba will try to stall, but they don't have much time, given their condition, and they don't have a lot of bargaining power. Are we finally at the beginning of the end of the Communist Cuban regime after 67 years? It's certainly moving in the right direction toward that objective.
