It's now into the fifth day since the shooting at Brown University, where someone killed two students and injured nine. Meanwhile, the press conferences have projected incompetence from the authorities, which hasn't given the public a lot of confidence that they're going to find the killer.
On Wednesday, they announced they had a second person they wanted to speak to, who they characterized as having been in the vicinity of the primary person of interest for whom they are looking.
They already released one "person of interest" who they had briefly detained.

One issue that has most angered the public has been the question of surveillance cameras, and why the cameras at the school didn't reveal more about the suspect in this case? The police are now canvassing the area to see if cameras from other residences or businesses may have information in the case.
A reporter put officials on the spot at the end of the press conference when he asked about those cameras and if the reason there weren't any that were in operation in the area in question was that they were a sanctuary city, and having cameras would help ICE. Listen as this guy just lights them up; he lets them know people are very angry and concerned about this.
🚨 HOLY CRAP! A LIVID reporter WENT OFF on Providence RI officials, accusing them of TAKING DOWN cameras in Brown University to shield illegal aliens

They had to abruptly end it!

"The camera in that building that Brown pulled off, because the sanctuary city law that we have! You don't want to record illegal immigrants. And you don't want provide the footage to FBI or immigration authorities. One camera in that building...friend of mine, they are angry at this investigation, these people at Brown University pulled the camera off. And you can't identify the person!" The reporter asked them to imagine what the families of the victims were going through and to "tell the truth."
The mayor, Brett Smiley, just said that the school had turned over all the evidence they had. Then he ended the presser.
Fox covered the question about cameras lacking outside in the area in question.

INSANE! What are the chances of that!?
These poor students pay six figures for a degree, and the university can’t even manage a security camera. Incompetence at the highest price point. pic.twitter.com/B1mIxDrBXB
This is what the authorities said on Tuesday regarding the camera placement.
The portion of the Brown University academic building where a gunman opened fire and killed two students didn't have surveillance cameras because of the structure's age, officials said Tuesday despite the official residence of the school president being older and appearing to be equipped with video monitoring.
Officials were questioned about the lack of sufficient security cameras in the Barus & Holley engineering and physics building despite Brown's $7.2 billion endowment during a Tuesday news conference in which they released more images of a person of interest being sought.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha said the school added an addition to the academic building around five years ago. The new structure, which is located in the front, is equipped with cameras, he said.
In the Wednesday presser, the Brown official said they had 1,200 cameras throughout the campus and that there were cameras in the building, noting the two different levels of technology they discussed on Tuesday. The reporter who asked that question was not happy with the response and said it didn't make sense. I suspect the officials are going to face more scrutiny over the cameras in their next presser.
Then there was also this question about how many people were in the room in that class review when the shooting took place, and whether the students saw the shooter come in from the front or the back. The response was that officials didn't even know how many students were there yet because it was a review session that people aren't required to attend.

Just a spectacular display of incompetence. pic.twitter.com/CTRuuA5jL4
So they don't even know all the people who may have been in the room. Providence Police Chief Colonel Oscar Perez said the school sent out an email asking students to notify them if they were there. Why not just contact everyone in the class to see if they were there, and shouldn't that have been done by now?
The one positive thing is that they've indicated they may have the DNA of the shooter.
But right now they seem completely at sea.
