Hoo Boy: Aftyn Behn Cornered on Her Anti-Cop, Defund-the-Police Remarks

We've reported on Aftyn Behn before. She's the Democrat running for the 7th Congressional district seat in the Tennessee special election on Dec. 2 to replace Republican Rep. Mark Green (TN-7).

She's the one who got nailed by prior statements claiming she "hated" Nashville, which might be a small problem. Democrats are pouring a lot of money into the race, even though it's a pretty red district, and Republican candidate Matt Van Epps has the lead. They're thinking that with low voter turnout, they might have a chance. A big House Democrat PAC has dropped $1 million into the race.

Behn appeared on MS NOW (the former MSNBC) on Sunday and likely expected an easy time of it.

But surprisingly, she was asked some good questions by anchor Catherine Rampell, who asked if Behn stood by her prior anti-police comments or if she wanted to clarify them.

The anchor said, “In 2020, you made some tweets that have since been deleted that were very critical of police. You said in those since-deleted tweets that the Metropolitan Nashville police department should be ‘dissolved.’ Another cheered on a teachers union saying that ‘defund the police should be a requirement for schools reopening’, and another saying, ‘Good morning, especially to the 54% of Americans that believe burning down a police station is justified.'”

That's disgraceful and disqualifying, particularly the police station comment.

But Behn refused to answer the question, saying she didn't want to "engage in cable news talking points." She's just going to avoid answering and hoping she can slide by.

Rampell pressed again, "So you don't want to clarify whether you still believe that the police should be defunded?”

Behn tried saying she didn't remember the tweets. Rampell said she wasn't asking if she remembered, but if she still held this position, "What is your position today?"

Behn replied, "I'm here to talk about my race," and wouldn't answer the question, even after getting three chances.

This is an incredible answer: She's basically saying she's running, but don't ask her an important question. The race is about what you believe, so if you're not willing to say what that is, why should anyone on either side of the aisle vote for you?

This is who Democrats are supporting, so it tells you a lot about them, too. They're going more and more left. If they're backing her, they're backing all of this craziness. When you're so off the rails that even MS NOW has to call you out, that's pretty bad. Why would anyone vote for her?

Tennessee, do your duty, come out in force, and reject this person.
