I think it's safe to say that Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-3) is a unique character with her purple hair and interesting wardrobe choices.
DeLauro, 82, is another Democrat who has been around forever - and she's another one who should retire. She's been in her seat since 1991.
She threw a massive tantrum on Tuesday as she gathered with other members of the House on the 28th day of the Schumer Shutdown. She went into full-blown Trump Derangement Syndrome, trying to blame President Donald Trump as she spoke about the money for the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). She claimed that Trump was "illegally" blocking SNAP funds from going out.

Who wants to tell her that it's the DEMOCRATS who have voted 13 times to PREVENT SNAP benefits from being funded??

She claimed the Trump administration was required to pay the money out of a contingency fund.
Wait a second. It's the Democrats who have voted 13 times not to fund the government. The funds that normally cover this are in limbo because of Democrats, not President Donald Trump. She wants SNAP covered under an emergency contingency fund while the Democrats are holding the money hostage to advance their political agenda. The fund isn't supposed to pay for Democrats' political games. This is a truly wild take from her - the Democrats are the ones who created the situation.
There's a very simple way to solve this: open the government. It isn't Trump voting no, it's you. It isn't Trump pushing a political agenda that's stopping funding here - it's you. You're laying out the harm, but still voting no. As your fellow Democrats have said, it's about using this situation for "leverage."
Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Mass., admits the Democrats are keeping the government shutdown:

So DeLauro doesn't have a leg to stand on here.
Democrats thought they could play this political game while blaming Trump and Republicans. But the Republicans' approval has improved since the shutdown, so the game is working against the Democrats.

The Democrats are now stuck in a trap of their own making. It's not hurting Republicans. It is hurting federal employees, many of whom have supported Democrats. And if the Democrats back out of this now in an obvious way, their far-left base is going to make them pay for it.
It remains to be seen how the Dems will find their way out of this. But I don't think “every day gets better for us,” as Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said.
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
