It's been a long time since we've spoken about Anthony Weiner.
But he's coming up on the radar again because he's running for the New York City Council. He trended on X because of people commenting on his appearance on "The View" where he argued that people should give him a chance, despite his past. That took some gall. He's owning his past, he said. He's "taking responsibility." Oh, and he even did a "but Trump" move.
"I got into recovery. I tried to make my life better. And now if I can be of service and I'm a damn good politician."

He said he wasn't going to say he was a victim like other politicians; he takes responsibility. He then went right to blaming addiction for his actions.
He asked that voters consider the "journey" he went through to get here. He claimed he was doing the opposite of what other politicians would do if they were in his position.
Astoundingly, "The View" audience cheered that pitch.
He argued that he was a better politician than some current Democratic figures.
I will admit that he can sling it better than Kamala Harris, who has difficulty conveying basic ideas in a coherent way. Still, emphatically, no thanks.
He mocked Harris, asking, "By the way, was this where Kamala Harris was sitting when she blew up her campaign?"
"Is this the spot?" Weiner said. "I hope I don’t have the same fate." I'd say he isn't even going to get up to bat, but who knows in New York City? But it is perhaps the one good thing that "The View" has done: unintentionally helped to expose the emptiness of Kamala Harris and her campaign.

He continued to go after Harris.
"The problem is, it’s a little bit too easy an answer, though, because also there were things that Kamala Harris – I made a joking reference to the answer she gave on this show: ‘Is there anything you would do different?’ That is the softest of softball that – every politician dreams to have that question," Weiner replied. "You still have to be a good candidate."
Oof. That's an interesting tactic, to attack Harris. Will that help him in a New York race? Maybe.
So here's the thing. You don't need a horrible candidate like Harris. You also don't need someone who has a history like Weiner. Even if he can complete full sentences, that doesn't make him a good candidate. He is still a liberal Democrat, and that's assuming he doesn't have the personal issues that he did in the past (and we only have his word to go with on that).
Yes, he's right, Democrats need better candidates. But they need better candidates than him, too; he is not the savior they are looking for. They need to move back to the center, and they need to care about the voters and what matters to them, not just obsess about preserving power.
There's a correlation between bad candidates and bad policy, and Democrats have both. It's not just how they message or who is the messenger, it's the message itself that's the problem. It's the embracing of all kinds of extremes. Even this, where they cheer someone with Weiner's past or platform him. Why? Are they this desperate and searching for answers after losing in November? Why did "The View" have him on? Whatever they are saying with this, it isn't good.
The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject their globalist agenda.
