Paris St. Germain had a lot of big names on their soccer team.

But on Saturday, they achieved something they had long cherished: winning the Champions League title, in Munich:

PSG stormed past Inter Milan in the 2025 Champions League final. It won 5-0, by more goals than any Champions League finalist ever before. It won as a team, with four goals scored or assisted by teenagers, including breakout 19-year-old star Désiré Doué.

But Paris, being Paris, the City of Light also erupted as people celebrated the victory--and did more than that, rampaging through the streets and creating chaos.

Several fires were set. Police had to deploy tear gas and charged at some of the people with batons, according to reports:

According to local media, at least 81 individuals have been arrested. Confrontations took place outside the Parc des Princes, where the one-sided final was being beamed on large screens, and on the Champs-Elysees. Police clad in full riot gear swooped on supporters who had thrown bottles and let off fireworks.

I don't get the concept of "you're so excited that your team won, let's burn the city down and create chaos." The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, didn't either. He was not happy:

The ugly scenes during the historic match led Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau to claim that 'barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris'.

Multiple incidents took place before the final whistle had blown, despite PSG taking a comfortable 2-0 lead into the half-time break after a dominant performance.

Fireworks also exploded on the ring road around the city after supporters ran onto the surface, disrupting traffic before the police arrived to intervene.

French firefighters were also called into action near the Parc des Princes with footage seemingly showing numerous bikes and mattresses on fire.

Retailleau said the police would respond "vigorously," and it looks like they did.
