Earlier this week, New York Magazine dropped a story that questioned Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman's mental health. The story relied largely on his former chief of staff and anonymous sources.

Fetterman disputed it, blasting it as "disgruntled employees."

Then there were two more stories this week that raised questions about his health.

There was a story in Axios saying he wasn't talking to his aides.

There was also an AP story claiming he got upset at a meeting with the teachers' union in his state.

Before long, Fetterman began repeating himself, shouting and questioning why “everybody is mad at me,” “why does everyone hate me, what did I ever do” and slamming his hands on a desk, according to one person who was briefed on what occurred.

As the meeting deteriorated, a staff member moved to end it and ushered the visitors into the hallway, where she broke down crying. The staffer was comforted by the teachers who were themselves rattled by Fetterman’s behavior, according to a second person who was briefed separately on the meeting.

The union isn't talking. But if you look at the story, the sources appear to be people who were told about the incident — i.e., "one person who was briefed on what occurred," and "a second person who was briefed separately on the meeting." Were they even there, or was this just hearsay?

There was also a story that Fetterman's internal polling was taking a hit.

Some had a lot of questions about the reports.

Many wondered about the timing, given all the issues Fetterman had running for office. At that time, the liberal media sprang to his defense, implying it was all just a temporary problem. So what changed? Some thought it was some of the inconvenient positions Fetterman has taken since then, including on things like Israel and the war in Gaza.

Now, Republican members of Congress are coming to his defense, including even his fellow senator from Pennsylvania, Sen. Dave McCormick.

Democrat Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) was the most pointed in his belief that this was about Israel. He got to the heart of the matter about the "excuse" for the leaks, that they "cared" about Fetterman.

Torres said if they truly cared about him, leaking on him like this was a "strange way of showing it."

So far, Torres is the only Democrat I've seen making such a statement. So much for supporting fellow Democrats.

Now, I don't know if there are any actual issues. But these stories come as Fetterman's communication with the public is clearer than it's ever been, so yes, the timing is interesting.

But once again, Democrats seem to be intent on infighting and doing the circular firing squad thing, while the Republicans are looking like the better people here. And the Democrats wonder why they are tanking in the polls?
