Socialists are getting ready to cross the Rubicon.
Now that their multi-generational scheme to gain control of the Democrat Party has been carried out with dizzying success, the radicals are setting their eyes on a bigger prize.
The United States of America itself. And socialists aren't exactly being subtle about it. They are calling for "war in the streets."
Legal scholar Jonathan Turley, who many would consider to be an old-school liberal in many regards, drew attention to the revolting phenomenon on his blog.
“You better get ready for … war.” Across the country, radicals are openly planning for the next stage of their movement, and notably, the Democratic establishment is not part of their plans. Despite the talk of a “Big Tent Party,” socialists are riding high on a surge of support and talking purges and revolution.
In Chicago, radicals gathered for a conference on Marxism during what many view as the heyday of socialism in the United States. The Democratic Socialists of America is now larger and more powerful than at any time in our history. Socialist candidates are winning elections across the country as Democratic establishment figures from Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) to Gov. Gavin Newsom pander to the movement.
Speakers in Chicago used the conference to push supporters to the next stage in the movement, including some openly calling for violence and the end to capitalism.
University of California Santa Barbara History Professor Butch Ware said Democrats “must be destroyed” and urged attendees to be ready for “war in the streets.” Notably, in postings on X, Ware has said that candidates such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed are too restrained and are being pushed by the establishment “to contain radicalism.”
Sounds kind of like an "insurrection" if you ask me.
As we have been talking about at RedState for some time, the Democratic Socialists of America have thoroughly infiltrated and taken control over the party formerly known as the "Democrat Party."
I might suggest that we simply start calling them the Socialist Democrat Party, as some parties have more honestly been dubbed in foreign countries, such as in pre-Soviet Russia and modern Germany.
Critically, Turley talked about radical upstarts calling for the moderates in the Democrat Party to be purged.
It is another example of the delusion that establishment Democrats have that they will be able to use these radicals to destroy their political enemies but not themselves.
After one election victory, socialists chanted “You’re Next!” when House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries’s image came on big-screen televisions.
Hasan Piker has called for a purging of moderates from the Democratic Party.
Just last week, Darializa Avila Chevalier declared, “A big tent doesn’t pay your rent, lower your grocery bill, or take on the corporations bleeding our country dry. Democratic socialism does.”
In a video posted to X, Professor Ware called for violence, warning followers that “some of these clickety-clack revolutionaries have never been in a f*cking gunfight.” He menacingly added, “Y’all ain’t nowhere near ready for a war in the streets. You better get ready for both kinds of war if you stay ready, you ain’t got to get ready.”
The moderate Democrat Party is as good as gone. It's not simply because the leadership is being filled with left-wing radicals, but moderates lack any political willpower whatsoever to resist the extremism.
It is the nature of the American left to become increasingly extreme as its views diverge further from political reality. This is what happened in revolutionary France as the Jacobins seized control and carried out the Terror, which was followed by the Thermidorean Reaction.
It is exactly this cautionary tale from history that Victor Davis Hanson recently warned about in a column on the rise of the openly socialist left in America.
One characteristic of the new radical Democratic Party was its pivot from solidarity with the middle classes to a movement of the wealthy and professional cadres as self-appointed protectors of the subsidized poor — a movement that reflected the 21st-century sources of influence and wealth within the Democratic Party.
Yet like the Jacobin movement of old, the new elites of the radicalized Democratic Party rarely felt that they should themselves be subject to the consequences of their own radical ideologies — whether climate-change taboos on personal energy use, open borders, defunding the police, etc.
Take, for example, the most radical firebrands of the new Democrats — Reps. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Mayor Mamdani. They were all either children of the upper-middle classes or had claimed to be multimillionaires while in Congress or had arrived as immigrants from the ruling elite of their prior, usually illiberal, homelands — all in ways impossible for ordinary citizens.
There is a line that encapsulates that the Democrat Party has become completely untethered from reality.
"All this surrealism proved utterly unsustainable, and it, too, fueled the Trump renaissance, given that there was no sign the Democratic Party would repudiate its neo-socialist drift and tack back to the center," he wrote.
Trump broke the left. Before he did that, the left was already fracturing.
The Critical Theory model that the left has clung to since the 1970s — identity politics, open borders, and welfare-state politics—was always going to end in disaster.
That was entirely by design. But it's also predictable that the vehicle for that project—the Democrat Party—would be thoroughly wrecked in the process.
There is nowhere left for centrists to go except for the Republican Party. And when that happens, all hell will break loose.
The Socialist Democrats will become increasingly belligerent and vengeful against their political opponents. They will seek to bait their enemies into the appearance of a violent "reaction."
These radical malcontents, who seek to gain control over the government and to use it to violate our constitutional rights, will frame themselves as the victims.
This is a narrative they have been putting into place for decades: That leftists are inherently "oppressed" victims and their opponents are inherently "oppressors."
Whether it's the male "patriarchy" or the white "bourgeoisie" or the "nativist" Americans that oppose them, they have their ready-made script inculcated in the mass consciousness.
They will again turn to their media allies to provide propaganda cover for them—both in terms of fake news and mass censorship.
So, if the socialist left calls for "war in the streets" because it is becoming increasingly desperate, they would do well to remember the advice of Chinese general Sun-Tzu.
"If you know the enemy and know yourself, your victory will not stand in doubt; if you know Heaven and know Earth, you may make your victory complete."
The radical left no longer knows itself; and it is no longer fighting on the same terrain as it did before the 2020 election.
The American people will be ready for their propaganda tricks. We have seen them all before—during the Biden administration.
If the Socialist Democrats wants to take control of the country, they no longer have the element of surprise.
We all know the Democrat Party has turned socialist. And history proves this is as dangerous an ideology that has ever faced mankind.
