The ABC debate went as I predicted it would — that whatever Kamala Harris did, the media would declare her the winner. And they're already on it this morning.
Yet, Harris lied her head off the entire night, didn't answer the questions, and the moderators didn't fact-check her on her lies, not even her "fine people" lie, which, at this point, everyone on earth knows that's a lie except Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. Well, they know, but they keep saying it.
The ABC moderators were awful, clearly providing her cover, fact-checking former President Donald Trump but not fact-checking Harris.

But what did voters take away from it all?
A CBS focus group of Pennsylvania voters was interesting on the subject. It had five people, three thought Harris won, and two thought Trump won.

One black female voter who thought Trump won said Harris just repeated everything that Biden has said in the past. That was right on target. Harris just repeated all the hoaxes that Joe Biden says about Trump — and they're still lies. How is that a "new way forward"?
Then the young male voter next to her said Trump made a strong closing statement, asking why she hasn't done all the things that she's proposing now while she's been in office if she wanted to do them. And notice when he says that, the black male voter nodding in agreement, like "Yeah, that's a point," even though he said he thought Kamala won. The young male said he thought she was trying to sell herself as a moderate like Joe Biden did, but she didn't talk about her policy changes, that it was a "facade."
Now, Dem strategist Doug Schoen, who said he couldn't vote for Kamala Harris because of her changes in position, made a great point. He said he thought Harris won the debate, but the problem was still the same: What Trump said in his closing statement remains the case. And he also called out the bias of the moderators.
Voters remain angry about the direction the country is headed, about the performance of both President Biden and Harris, as well as which candidate they trust more on the top two or three issues facing the country: the economy, immigration and law and order. [....]
And many voters, indeed a majority of voters, agree with his core assessment of the current state of our nation. [....]
The debate was hardly fair. And absent a debate on Fox News, there’s little reason to believe he’ll get a fair shake from any other network.

So that's really the bottom line. Harris can lie, and the media can cover for her.
But it's the economy, stupid. It always is. And voters trust Trump more on those top issues. Trump needs to pound home the message of the closing statement — and talk more about it, and then, when he thinks he's talking too much about it, talk about it again, making the point of how they've failed. That's what he needs to continue to drive home to Election Day.
