I'm kind of thinking that Sahara Dula may have some trouble with that criminal justice/public relations career that she was looking for, based on what she allegedly did this week.
Sahara Dula — a 24-year-old Brooklynite whose lawyer said mentors kids to stay off drugs — was driving her black Lexus the wrong way on the Upper East Side while high on marijuana Wednesday when she barreled into the NYPD officer, officials and sources said.
“I told the cop I wanted to go straight, and he wouldn’t move, so I hit him. I did it on purpose,’’ Dula later told investigators, according to court papers.
“F–k these cops! He wouldn’t move!’’ she screamed a few minutes after the incident, the documents claim —with a source saying Dula added, “F–k these cops, it’s a lesson to him, and hopefully he doesn’t want to be a cop anymore.”
You can see a longer video of it on X.
The cop walks up to her, likely to tell her that she's going the wrong way and to move.
You can see the car starts up when she sees the cop, she turns and runs into him.
It's a wonder he wasn't killed, she flipped him up in the air, and he could have broken his neck. He got a broken leg as it was, with multiple areas of bruising, and he was clearly in a lot of pain.
The cop was there as part of an investigation of a high-end robbery when he was hit.
Dula was charged with first-degree attempted assault, attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment and operating a vehicle while ability impaired by drugs and reckless driving, according to the criminal complaint.
NYPD PBA President Patrick Hendry wanted to know why she wasn't charged with attempted murder, given the alleged evidence, "It's clear she tried to mow down an NYPD officer," he told PIX 11 News
PIX 11 said assaults on NYPD officers are up by 40 percent. Hendry said part of the reason is that there are no consequences.
"This kind of leniency has led to thousands of police officers being attacked and injured," he said.
As the PIX 11 report says, the defense claimed in court that Dula was bipolar and getting mental health help. So I guess that's going to be a factor in the defense.
But when you have no consequences this is what this breeds -- more assaults. But that's New York in general, for so many cases, even when it involves assaults on police officers.
There were some suggestions from social media that she might be supportive of "defund the police" and the "Pro-Palestine" cause. However, the police have not yet confirmed that.
But one has to wonder why this story hasn't gotten a lot of national attention yet. It isn't every day (at least not yet) when someone allegedly intentionally tries to run over a cop. You would think that would be leading the news. However, so far there's mainly just been local coverage.
